Crack On Crack On the Britannia Stakes bet

Crack On Crack On is progressing at a rate of knots and can defy a rise in the weights to land the hat-trick in the Britannia Stakes on day three of Royal Ascot (17:00). The Clive Cox trained three-year-old looked one to keep onside when opening his account in good style on return to action at Lingfield when scoring by half-a-length on handicap debut.

He got put up 5lb for that cosy success, but made light of the rise when following-up in the competitive 15-runner Silver Bowl at Haydock. After dwelling at the start, Crack On Crack On made stealthy headway two from home under a confident Adam Kirby. He then stayed on powerfully inside the final furlong to win going away by 1 1/4 lengths from Completion.

Crack On Crack On was well on top at the finish and only need a couple of backhanders to get the job done. It was an authoritative display and one which suggested there was even better to come. Crack On Crack on is clearly on a serious upward curve, so a further 6lb rise for his latest success looks fair and may not be enough to stop him going in again.

Sam Gold holds serious claims

Trainer Roger Varian does well with his handicappers and Sam Gold looks primed to run a big race for the Suffolk handler. The three-year-old shaped as if needing the run on seasonal reappearance when third on handicap debut at Newmarket, and duly showed the benefit for that outing when opening his account in emphatic fashion last time out at Doncaster.

Sam Gold tracked the leaders before being produced to take up the running inside the final furlong. He then pulled readily clear without being asked a serious question to score by 2 1/2 lengths. It looked as though Sam Gold finished with plenty of petrol left in the tank, so the assessor may have taken a chance in raising him just 5lb.

The son of Iffraaj has the potential to be better than that and his handler has done well with similar types who have gone on to make their mark in pattern race company. Sam Gold still has a long way go to to reach those heights, but is clearly a useful sort who remains unexposed and open to stacks more progress. That makes him a contender among Britannia Stakes betting tips.

Simpson a lively outsider

There are plenty of others to consider in a typically wide-open a renewal and, of those at massive odds, Simpson makes plenty of each-way appeal. Trained by Ed Walker, the gelding had some useful form as a juvenile when winning once and running well to make the frame on numerous occasions. They included when a solid second of 10 to Lynwood Gold at Newmarket on the final start of the campaign.

He finished 1 1/4 lengths in front of the third home Shaherezada, to whom he was conceding 6lb. That one went on to bolt up by five lengths next time out in a decent handicap and finish fifth to Magic Wand in the Cheshire Oaks. Simpson has had three outings this season and posted an improved effort on each occasion. He particularly caught the eye last time out when denied a clear run and finishing a 4 3/4 lengths sixth behind Crack On Crack On in the aforementioned Silver Bowl at Haydock.

Now meeting the winner on 7lb better terms gives Simpson every chance of getting closer from a handicapping perspective. It is enough to suggest that he can be a lively outsider at Royal Ascot.
