Tip Two Win odds tasty for St James’s Palace

Tip Two Win looks overpriced and worth a bet to land the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot (16:20). The Roger Teale trained colt is a really likeable type who has yet to finish out of the frame in six starts, winning twice.

He progressed with every run as a juvenile, landing a Listed contest at Doncaster before rounding off the campaign with a fine 2 3/4 lengths second to Elarqam in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket. Tip Two Win stuck to the task well and the strapping son of Dark Angel looked the type that would develop into a smart three-year-old. That view was confirmed when he belied massive odds of 50/1 and ran an absolute stormer to finish runner-up to Saxon Warrior in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket last month.

After racing towards the rear in the centre of the track, Tip Two Win made good headway a furlong from home and stayed on strongly to go down by 1 1/2 lengths. He finished a head in front of subsequent Epsom Derby winner Masar, so that form is the strongest on offer for this contest. It was a run which entitles Tip Two Win to be favourite for this; if he was trained by a more high-profile handler, then that would probably be the case.

Horses that have won or been placed in the 2000 Guineas have a superb record in this contest. At the prices on offer, Tip Two Win odds have plenty going for them and he has to be the bet.

Without Parole a key player

The betting is headed by unbeaten colt Without Parole, who hails from the in-form yard of John Gosden. After bolting up on his first two starts – by six lengths on each occasion – the son of Frankel was made to work hard to land his hat-trick in the 1m Heron Stakes at Sandown last month.

Without Parole took up the running inside the final furling, but didn’t pull clear as expected. He was made to dig deep yet found extra when pressed to beat Gabr by three-quarters of a length. It was no more than a workmanlike display, but Gosden said after that the soft ground was against him and he would be a totally different proposition on better ground.

Without Parole gets that now; however, his bare form does not necessarily entitle him to head the market as this is a big step up in class. He is undoubtedly an exciting prospect, though, who is clearly held in the highest regard. The fact that Gosden is now pitching him into the highest grade speaks volumes.

Classic winner Romanised commands respect

Irish raider Romanised brings Classic winning form into the contest and looks sure to make his presence felt. The Ken Condon trained colt posted a career best effort when springing a 25/1 shock and landing the Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh last month.

Romanised raced at the rear after dwelling at the start, before coming with a sustained run in the home straight to beat US Navy Flag by 2 1/4 lengths. He stayed on really strongly to win going away at the line and and there were no excuses for the runner-up or the third home Gustav Klimt, who both re-oppose.

There is no reason why Romanised should not confirm the form with those rivals and he did have some smart form as a juvenile, including when a two-length third to the aforementioned Derby winner Masar at Sandown. Although the Irish Guineas was not as strong as the English, it is still top class form and makes Romanised a solid each-way contender in a wide-open renewal.
