Abergwaun Stakes betting tips: Different League worth a wager in Tipperary sprint

Horsebetting.com experts believe Different League is worth a bet to take advantage of a drop in class and land the spoils in the Listed 5f Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary on Thursday, 30 August. Last year’s winner Gorane looks sure to make a bold bid to retain her crown and is feared most, while The Broghie Man holds solid each-way claims in a competitive renewal. Class-dropping Different League holds all the aces in Abergwaun Stakes

Trainer Aidan O’Brien has been back among the winners of late following a lean spell, so his Different League looks worth a wager to cash-in on a drop in class and land the Listed 5f Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary on Thursday (18:55).

This daughter of Dabrism had some very smart form as a juvenile last season when in the care of French handler Matthieu Palussiere. She won her first three starts – and in the last of those she beating none other than brilliant subsequent multiple Group 1 winning filly Alpha Centauri by a neck in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Different League went on to be placed twice in Group 1 company, finishing third in the Prix Morny at Deauville and a fine 1 3/4 lengths runner-up to Clemmie in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. Although yet to get her head in front in five starts this season since joining O’Brien, she has posted come solid efforts in defeat.

They include when staying on well from off the pace to finish a never nearer five-length sixth of 14 to Blue Point in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. Different League backed that up with a solid close-up fourth of 10 to Judicial last time out in a Group 3 at Sandown.

The form of both those races looks really strong in relation to this lower grade affair. A repeat of either run is going to make Different League tough to beat, so she therefore rates our main selection in these 2018 Abergwaun Stakes betting tips.

Defending champ Gorane feared most

The Henry de Bromhead trained Gorane is one from one over course and distance, with that success coming in this 12 months ago where she kept on well to beat Snowstar by half-a-length. This four-year-old also now drops back in grade, so rates the main danger to Different League in what is a competitive renewal.

Although below par last time out when a distant sixth of eight to Speak In Colours in a Group 3 at The Curragh, this daughter of Group 1 winning sprinter Dream Ahead had previously put together a string of decent efforts this season. After finishing runner-up in two Listed contests, Gorane ran very well when finding only Actress too good in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at the same venue.

Having showed plenty of early dash she stuck to the task gamely when headed to down by 1 3/4 lengths. Gorane was then far from disgraced in a Group 2 at The Curragh again when a 2 1/2 lengths fifth of seven to Havana Grey where she finished just a length behind the third home Mabs Cross, who has since been beaten a pixel in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at the York Ebor Festival.

This is easier; so, if bouncing back from a rare poor run last time out, Gorane looks sure to make a bold bid to retain her crown. That is why she is the main danger identified in our 2018 Abergwaun Stakes betting tips.

The Broghie Man an each-way alternative

The Broghie Man is another with claims judged on his success in a Listed contest at Navan on seasonal appearance back in April. The Adrian Keatley trained three-year-old gelding responded generously for pressure to beat Speak In Colours by a short-head in the hands of top French jockey Gerald Mosse.

He had Different League a further 7 3/4 lengths back in third and now meets that rival on just 1lb worse terms. That rival looked badly in need of the outing that day but – if the result is taken at face value – The Broghie Man is weighted to confirm the form.

He has also been far from disgraced in two subsequent outings, finishing fifth in a Group 3 and a 3 3/4 lengths seventh of 12 to Blue Uluru under a big weight in a handicap at The Curragh in the hands of an inexperienced 7lb claimer. Connections have since given The Broghie Man a break.

That may well be a plus, as he showed when winning at Navan that he can go well fresh, and Mosse is also now back in the saddle, so everything looks in place for a big run. Thus The Broghie Man had to be the each-way punt in our 2018 Abergwaun betting tips.
