Ascendant Stakes betting tips: Beatboxer a bet to floor juvenile rivals at Haydock

The 2018 Ascendant Stakes betting tips given by Horsebetting.com say Beatboxer is worth a bet to maintain his unbeaten record in the Listed juvenile contest over 1m at Haydock on Saturday, 8 September. Great Scot has proven form in the grade, so rates the main danger. Persian Moon is a tough and consistent sort that is another with claims now dropped in class. Beatboxer can call the tune in Ascendant Stakes

Beatboxer has won both his starts in the manner of an exciting prospect, so is strongly fancied to take the step up into Listed company in his stride and land the spoils in the feature juvenile contest at Haydock on Saturday, the 1m Ascendant Stakes (15:00).

After forging clear inside the last to easily beat Venedgar by two lengths in a nine-runner maiden over 7f at Sandown, this John Gosden trained colt could not have been more impressive when landing a novice stakes over this course and distance. The son of Scat Daddy made virtually all and cruised clear two from home to register a facile 3 3/4 lengths success over Rajinsky.

Beatboxer had the field the strung out like washing and barely had to break sweat. The runner-up has also come out and won since, so the form does not look too shabby. However, it was the the manner in which he got the job done that was most striking and suggested he was an above average sort who needed keeping firmly onside.

This demands more, but it’s worth noting that he held an entry in last weekend’s Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown won in ultra-impressive fashion by stable companion Too Darn Hot, who now heads the ante post betting for next year’s Epsom Derby. Gosden clearly wanted to avoid the pair clashing, so it looks a shrewd move to save Beatboxer for this.

His proven course form is a massive plus and Beatboxer definitely falls into the “could be anything” category. So, taking everything into account, he looks a worthy favourite to take this en route to bigger and better things. We therefore had no hesitation in making Beatboxer the main selection in our 2018 Ascendant Stakes betting tips.

Great Scot looks sure to go well

Cheshire handler Tom Dascombe does well with his runners at the venue and saddles Great Scot. This colt ran a blinder when third last time out in a Listed contest over 1m at Deauville and was arguably an unlucky loser, so with proven form in the grade rates the main danger to Beatboxer.

In France he completely blew the start before powering home to be beaten just a head into third by Al Hilalee. The winner is a highly-regarded Godolphin owned sort who is now unbeaten in two starts, while the second home Duke Of Hazzard is no mug having finished third in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot back in June. It gives the form a solid look, so in the circumstances it was a huge run by Great Scot and one which needs upgrading.

Prior to that, the son of Requinto had overcome a slow start to score in good style on debut at Chester before following up over 7f here when staying on strongly from off the pace to beat Line Of Duty, who has won since, by a length.

Great Scot clearly has plenty of ability and is also versatile as regards ground. The going at the time of writing is currently on the soft side of good – the same conditions as he encountered at Deauville. Given the massive performance he posted there, Great Scot has to be seriously considered in this and looks sure to give Beatboxer something to think about.

Class-dropping Persian Moon another to consider

Persian Moon is a tough and consistent sort who lost little in defeat last time out when third in the Group 3 Lowther Stakes over 7f at York. He now drops back in grade and is officially the highest rated in the line-up, so looks another with leading claims in a competitive renewal of the Ascendant Stakes.

The Mark Johnston trained son of Makfi was never really travelling in the Lowther, but stuck to the task well to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths by Phoenix Of Spain. He didn’t have the pace to match the first two home, so the extra furlong of this looks sure to suit, and prior to that Persian Moon had won twice in the manner of a progressive sort.

After opening his account at the third time of asking in terrific style at Yarmouth when making all and staying on strongly to score by five lengths, he gave weight all round when gamely landing an 11-runner novice stakes contest at York by a neck from Hot Team. Persian Moon looked beat when headed a furlong from home, but rallied bravely to get back up close home.

The front pulled six lengths clear of the rest and Hot Team – to whom he was conceding 6lb – has come out to give the form form a solid look. Haydock also suits front-running types like Persian Moon and he therefore could prove a tough nut to crack if allowed an easy lead in this small, but select field.

He is certainly not afraid of a battle and this is easier than the Lowther. That all adds up to Persian Moon being another one that had to feature among our 2018 Ascendant Stakes betting tips and is a solid each-way betting proposition to make the frame again.
