Ballyhill, meanwhile, is a fascinating contender now switched back to the smaller obstacles in the 2m 3f handicap hurdle and is the each-way play. Jester Jet value in Bangor feature contest

Jester Jet looks decent value to get the better of Maria’s Benefit in the feature race at Bangor on Wednesday, the Listed 2m 1f Canter Carpet Mares’ Novices’ Chase (13:20). This Tom Lacey trained eight-year-old took her form to a new level over hurdles last season when winning twice.

In the last of those successes at Aintree’s Grand National meeting, she stayed on strongly to beat Eaton Hill in a competitive 19-runner Grade 3 handicap off a mark of 133. Jester Jet went on to round off the campaign with a solid second of 17 to Monbeg Theatre at Haydock off 139, while there was lots to like about her chasing debut last month when runner-up to Bags Groove at Ffos Las.

After being held-up, the daughter of Overbury was making good headway when clouting three from home. That mistake cost her vital momentum and ground, but she then stuck to the task well to go down by just two lengths at the line. In the process, the pair pulled 12 lengths clear of some useful performers.

Bags Groove has since gone on to follow-up in good style in a Grade 2 at Wincanton when beating the highly regarded Secret Investor by nine lengths, so that gives the form a really solid look even though Jester Jet was receiving 7lb from that rival. She is now back against her own sex and has been given an official chase mark of 142 for that run.

That is just 1lb lower than Maria’s Benefit, who scored easily on chase debut at Newton Abbot but raced just two rivals who made a number of costly errors. That means the form of Jester Jet’s second to Bags Groove is arguably stronger than her main market rival here.

Her handler also has a strike rate of 33 per cent with his runners at the Welsh venue in the past 12 months, so it makes her look worth a wager to turn over the jolly. That’s why Jester Jet rates the main selection in our Bangor betting tips for November 14.

Barney Dwan weighted to deliver

Barney Dwan looks nicely treated on the pick of his form so rates our next best bet in a competitive renewal of the 3m Anne Duchess Of Westminster Memorial Handicap Chase (13:50). The eight-year-old, who hails from the in-form yard of Fergal O’Brien, finished a fine second of 24 to the very smart Presenting Percy in the Pertemps Network Final at the 2017 Cheltenham Festival and won two of his six starts over fences last season.

In the second of those, he readily beat Alzammaar by five lengths in a novice chase at Musselburgh off an official rating of 145. Barney Dwan went on to run a blinder in his hat-trick bid when an 11 1/2 lengths fourth of 19 to Mister Whitaker in the Listed 2m 4f Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival off a mark of 143.

The form of that race is strong and reads really well in relation to this lower grade class 2 contest. Barney Dwan is able to race in it off 2lb lower, so that makes him look weighted to go in again at any time. He also comes into the race having shaped as if needing the outing when fifth of nine to Charbel at Chepstow and that spin should have put him spot on for this.

Barney Dwan also has winning form over the trip and his ideal ground. Jockey Johnny Burke is also one from two on the son of Vinnie Roe and O’Brien is operating at a strike rate of 25 per cent in the last 14 days at the time of writing. So, with plenty seemingly in his favour, Barney Dwan also had to feature among our Bangor betting tips for November 14.

Ballyhill the each-way bet

In the 2m 3f Hays Travel Handicap Hurdle (14:55), Ballyhill is a fascinating contender now switched back to the smaller obstacles off a potentially lenient mark. This Nigel Twiston-Davies trained seven-year-old won twice over hurdles in 2016, and also ran really well when third of seven to Elgin in a class 2 novice contest at Kempton off an official rating of 136.

Elgin is now rated 158, the runner-up Mohayyed is rated 146 and Jenkins, who came fourth, now has a hurdles rating of 148. That is very strong form indeed and Ballyhill got back to winnings ways when landing a Grade 3 handicap chase at Cheltenham back in January when staying on strongly to beat Shantou Flyer by 1 3/4 lengths off a mark of 133.

Ballyhill is now able to race in this class 2 affair off 132, so that gives him major claims from a handicapping perspective – especially on his run behind Elgin. His handler has also made a good start to the new season and has a strike rate of just under 20 per cent with his runners at the venue in the last 12 months.

Two of Ballyhill’s three career successes have also come on the forecast ground, so he has more going for him than his odds would suggest. Thus he features as the each-way punt in our Bangor betting tips for November 14 on a competitive seven-race card at the Welsh venue.
