Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes betting tips: Class-dropping Firelight can shine at Salisbury

Horsebetting.com experts say Firelight is worth a bet to cash-in on a drop in class and land the 2018 Dick Poole Fillies Stakes at Salisbury. Come On Leicester has some solid form in the book and is feared most under jockey Ryan Moore for this Group 3 juvenile contest over 6f on Thursday, 6 September. Scintilating odds appeal each-way based on her taking debut success prior to disappointing last time out. For full details, read our in-depth 2018 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes betting tips preview.

Firelight can prove too hot for Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes rivals

Firelight ran very well last time out in Group 2 company, so looks worth a bet to take  advantage of a drop in class and return to winnings ways in the 6f juvenile feature race at Salisbury on Thursday, the Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes (16:20). That run came in the Lowther Stakes at York’s Ebor Festival last month, where the daughter of Oasis Dream finished a close-up fourth of nine to Fairyland.

After being held-up, Firelight was switched left to make a challenge a furlong from home and stayed on nicely to be beaten just two lengths. Although it was arguably not the strongest of renewals, the winner is a useful sort who had previously won her first two starts before finishing a fine third in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

It gives the form a solid look in the context of this lower grade contest and sets the standard. Firelight is officially the top rated in the line-up off 100, so that gives her 6lb and upwards on her rivals that have received a mark from the assessor.

That Lowther fourth was also a career-best effort from the Andrew Balding trained filly, who had previously shown a really likeable attitude to dig deep and land back-to back contests at Kempton and Newmarket. Firelight has won two of her four starts, showing improved form on each outing.

She looks the type who should have even more to offer, and hails from a yard that boasts a tremendous strike rate of of just over 30 per cent in the last 14 days at the time of writing. Oisin Murphy, who is also riding out of his skin at present, has also partnered her two both of her career successes and is once again in the saddle.

So, taking everything into account, Firelight looks to have plenty going for her in this. As she sets a clear standard on both ratings and form, she just had to be put up as our main selection in these 2018 Dick Poole Stakes betting tips.

Come On Leicester key player under Moore

Trainer Richard Hannon saddled Anna Nerium to land the spoils 12 months ago and looks to have another leading contender this time round in the shape of Come On Leicester. This daughter of Kodiac is the most experienced in the line-up having raced six times, but only winning once.

That success came under Ryan Moore when bolting up by 4 1/2 lengths at Windsor back in May. Come On Leicester backed that up with a fine staying on 1 1/4 lengths fifth of 22 to Signora Cabello in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes over 5f at Ascot.

The winner has since gone on to land another Group 2 over in France and be beaten just three-quarters of a length by Pretty Pollyanna in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville. So Perfect, who finished fourth, has also gone on to land a Group 3 at The Curragh and be beaten just half-a-length by Advertise in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the same venue to give the form a very strong look in relation to this.

Come On Leicester, meanwhile, also posted a decent effort last time out when third of 14 in Listed company at Newbury, staying on late to be beaten 3 3/4 lengths by Shumookh. Anything like a repeat of her run in the Queen Mary makes her a massive player in this.

The step back up to 6f also looks sure to suit judged on her latest effort and Come On Leicester is the closest to Firelight on ratings from those in this field who have a mark. She is therefore feared most in what looks a trappy renewal of this juvenile contest.

Scintilating capable of bouncing back

Scintilating failed to live up to expectations last time out when sixth of seven to Angel’s Hideaway in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, but may well have paid the price for racing far too keenly in the early stages. Given that she was sent off just 7/2 that day it’s far too soon to be writing her off, especially judged on her impressive debut at the same venue and rates the value each-way bet here.

The Ralph Beckett daughter of Siyouni justified plenty of market support when beating Posted by 1 1/4 lengths in a 16-runner novice stakes. After racing prominently throughout travelling strongly, jockey Harry Bentley let out an inch of rein when asking her to take up the running a furlong from home.

When he then pushed the button and asked Scintilating to go about her business. she showed a smart turn off foot to put the race to bed and score cosily. She was given a tender introduction and won with stacks more in hand than the winning margin suggests.

Given how well Scintiliating settled that day, it may well be that she boiled over in the searing heat at Ascot last time out. If that is the case, then she is definitely worth another chance and connections have also wisely given her a break to freshen-up.

As one of three in the line-up who have just two career outings under rules, Scintilating is open to plenty of further progress and far less exposed than Come On Leicester among others. So, at the odds on offer, Scintilating gets the each-way vote in our 2018 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes betting tips.
