Pilaster a solid punt in Park Hill Stakes

Pilaster is a filly on a serious upward curve, so rates a solid bet to notch another success in the feature contest at Doncaster on Thursday, the extended 1m 6f Park Hill Stakes (15:00). The Roger Varian trained daughter of Nathaniel has won all three of her starts this season, showing improved form in each.

After opening her account in ready fashion at Chelmsford, the three-year-old could not have been more impressive when quickening clear to slam Galmarley in a 14-runner novice stakes contest at Kempton. Pilaster put things to bed instantly when hitting the front two from home to win with any amount in hand, so it’s impossible to see why she should not confirm the form with the re-opposing runner-up.

Connections then decided to pitch her into Group 2 company and there was lots to like about the way in which she dug deep to land the Lillie Langtry Stakes over roughly this trip. Pilaster raced keenly in mid-division before making a move three from home; she then powered home inside the last and – despite getting carried right – got up in the dying stride to get the job done.

Given how the race panned out, it was a cracking effort and the runner-up is a highly regarded and thriving sort who has been supplemented for the final Classic of the season here on Saturday, the Group 1 St Leger. Pilaster also had God Given (fourth), Isabel De Urbina (fifth) and Flattering (eighth) in-behind, so has nothing to fear from that re-opposing trio.

Her claims looks crystal clear in this same grade contest, so we had no hesitation whatsoever in putting up Pilaster as the standout punt and our NAP on this cracking seven-race card at Town Moor. She is your best bet among Doncaster betting tips for September 13.

Dubai Beauty can collect in May Hill for boys in blue

Dubai Beauty looked an exciting prospect when scoring on debut, so can take the step up in Group 2 company in her stride to land the other on this card – the May Hill Stakes for juvenile fillies run over the straight mile (14:25). This beautifully bred daughter of Frankel is owned by Godolphin, who have seen their famous all blue colours carried to victory in four of the last eight renewals.

They include White Moonstone (2010) and Ihtimal (2013), who like Dubai Beauty hailed from the yard of Newmarket handler Saeed bin Suroor. Gallop watchers had given glowing reports ahead of her racecourse bow at headquarters and Dubai Beauty duly delivered in style for her supporters who backed her down into 3/1 second-favourite.

After tracking the stands’ side leader, Dubai Beauty was produced to take up the running approaching the last and ran on strongly to readily beat Posted by 1 1/2 lengths. She was given a tender introduction and educational ride by Oisin Murphy, while the front two pulled eight lengths clear of the third home and had the field strung out like washing.

Although Posted failed to shine next time up in a Group 3 at Goodwood she was sent off the 5/2 joint-favourite, so is clearly held in high regard. It may be that what Dubai Beauty beat is questionable, but there could be no doubt the strikingly visual impression that she created.

It was a performance which oozed class and suggested she was an above average sort who needed keeping firmly onside. This obviously demands much more, but Dubai Beauty has bags of untapped potential and is entitled to come on significantly for the run.

So, she is therefore taken to prove up to the task and land the spoils en route to hopefully bets things and thus rates our next best bet on the card. Dubai Beauty is also among the Doncaster betting tips for September 13 we give.

The Irish Rover the each-way play in valuable juvenile sales race

The richest race on the card is the Weatherbys Racing Bank 300,000 2-Y-O Stakes run over an extended 6f (15:35), and The Irish Rover looks a solid each-way bet at the odds on offer now eased in grade. Trained in Ireland by Aidan O’Brien, this colt has won only one of his six starts but has posted some really solid efforts in defeat in group company.

They include a cracking third to Advertise in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh. After racing prominently throughout in the five-runner field, the son of No Nay Never kept on well for pressure to be beaten just a length into third behind Advertise.

It was a career-best effort and a big step up on his previous run when he could only finish 10 lengths down on Calyx and 12th of 23 in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Irish Rover has since been far from disgraced when a 3 1/4 lengths fourth of nine to Emaraaty Ana in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York.

Those efforts have earned him an official rating of 108 and that sets a clear standard in this; it gives The Irish Rover, who now gets fitted with blinkers for the first time, 13lb and upwards in hand on his rivals. Now pitched into a lower grade, it gives him outstanding claims and will therefore be hugely disappointing if he does not make the frame at the very least.
