Fortune Stakes betting tips: Wadilsafa a worthy favourite for Sandown feature

The 2018 Fortune Stakes betting tips given by Horsebetting.com say the lightly-raced and progressive Wadilsafa is a worthy favourite to land the spoils in the Listed 1m feature contest at Sandown on Wednesday, 19 September. Hathal posted some smart efforts last season, so is feared most following a recent comeback spin. Archetype has a good record at the track and looks to hold solid each-way claims. For full details why, read our in-depth 2018 Fortune Stakes betting tips preview.

Wadilsafa a strong fancy to land Fortune Stakes

Wadilsafa has a progressive profile, so looks a worthy favourite and the one to be on in the Listed 1m Fortune Stakes at Sandown on Wednesday (15:15). This Owen Burrows trained colt has only had four starts, winning twice.

In the first of those on seasonal reappearance at Newmarket, the superbly bred son of Frankel forged clear to beat Herculean in a 13-runner novice stakes contest. It was a most taking performance and one which saw connections pitch him into Group 3 company next time up at Royal Ascot.

Although Wadilsafa eventually finished a 7 1/2 lengths ninth of 16 to Hunting Horn in the 1m 2f Hampton Stakes, he shaped a bit better than the bare result and the fact that he was sent off a well-backed 5/1 joint second-favourite shows that he is clearly held in high regard.

The three-year-old then took advantage of a drop in class to resume winning ways last time out at York when destroying the opposition in a 1m handicap. Wadilsafa made all and, after being shaken up at the two marker, pulled readily clear to easily beat Get Knotted by 4 1/2 lengths.

It was a fine performance against some battle-hardened sorts and earned him a revised rating of 110. That is the highest in the line-up and Wadilsafa also receives a handy 4lb weight-for-age allowance from the likes of Archetype and Hathal; so, taking it into account, he has 5lb and upwards in hand on his seven rivals.

That suggests that Wadilsafa is going to take the world of beating, especially as further progress looks assured and is two from two over the 1m trip of this. We therefore had no hesitation in making him the main punt in our 2018 Fortune Stakes betting tips.

Class-dropping Hathal feared most

Hathal comes out next best on official ratings and, although he hasn’t scored since landing a Group 3 at Haydock two years ago when trained by William Haggas, he has been lightly-raced since and posted four solid efforts last season in Group 2 company last season.

The included when a 1 3/4 lengths third to Success Days in the 1m 2f York Stakes and a fine three-quarters of a lengths third of six to subsequent Group 1 Sussex Stakes winner Lightning Spear in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood. Hathal also ran well to finish a two-length fourth to Taareef in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein over 1m at Chantilly on his final start of the campaign.

Those runs read really well in the context of this lower grade affair. Although Hathal was well-beaten on return to action in a Group 3 at Salisbury on his first start for Lambourn handler Jamie Osborne when last of six to Plumatic, it was his first start for 320 days, so the son of Speightstown is entitled to strip much fitter for it.

If that does prove to be the case, then Hathal looks the most likely one to give Wadilsafa most to think about given that this is the easiest task he has faced for some time. Thus he also features among our potential punts in these 2018 Fortune Stakes betting tips.

Archetype as solid each-way option

Given that Archetype runs the track very well, and hails from the in-form yard of Simon Crisford, he looks a solid each-way contender under champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa. The four-year-old was progressive last season when winning four times, including twice here.

This son of Le Havre was also beaten just a short-head on his other visit to the track, and is one from one over course and distance. The Esher venue with stiff uphill finish clearly pleys to his strengths and Archetype comes into the race having bounced back from a below par effort in the Royal Hunt Cup to be beaten just a short-head by Potemkin in a minor event at Clairefontaine in France.

Potemkin is no mug having won a Group 1 in 2016 and previously run well to finish fourth in a couple of Group 3s; so, if taking another step forward, Archetype should be up to making his presence felt in this line-up. Therefore, at the odds on offer, he gets the each-way vote in our 2018 Fortune Stakes betting tips.
