Newmarket betting tips: Waldstern and Kadar among Saturday fancies in juvenile action

The Newmarket betting tips for October 13 given by Horsebetting.com experts look at the supporting card on Cesarewitch day of the Future Champions Festival. Waldstern rates the NAP in the Listed 1m 2f Zetland Stakes, while Kadar who beat that one last time out is our next best bet for the 1m Group 3 Autumn Stakes. Different League, meanwhile, looks each-way value to cash in on a significant ease in grade and landed the other Listed contest on the card, the 6f Boadicea Stakes for fillies and mares. Read more about why you should take a punt on these horses in our preview and Newmarket betting tips for October 13.

Waldstern can get Gosden off to a Flying Start at Newmarket in Zetland

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori were a winning combination in the Flying Start Zetland Stakes two years ago with Coronet, so look well worth a wager in this year’s renewal of the Listed 1m 2f juvenile contest that gets proceedings underway on Cesarewitch day at Newmarket on Saturday (13:50) with Waldstern.

This Sea The Stars colt made a winning debut on the July course here back in August. After racing in the rear, Waldstern made good progress on the far side before the final furlong and then came with a strong run when ridden to take it up 100 yards from home and soon forge clear to score by 1 1/4 lengths.

It was a very taking bow over 1m and he was sent off odds-on to follow-up in another novice event at Haydock. Again racing no better than midfield early on, Waldstern made headway from before three out and hit the front prior to the last, but got headed deep inside the final furlong and beaten 1 1/4 lengths by Kadar.

As the winner looked such a nice prospect, he lost little in defeat. After just two career outings, there is still plenty of progress left in Waldstern, who is the least exposed in the seven-runner field and the step up in trip looks sure to suit.

Despite the presence of two Irish raiders from the yard of Aidan O’Brien in Sydney Opera House and Norway, with the latter looking the biggest danger, it’s Waldstern who rates the NAP on this card and he thus heads our Newmarket betting tips for October 13.

Kadar fancied to follow-up in Autumn

Jockey William Buick has partnered two of the last three winners of the Group 3 Autumn Stakes on the Rowley Mile (14:25), so that makes his ride aboard the aforementioned Kadar in this year’s renewal even more eye-catching. Trained by Karl Burke, who landed Group 1 glory last weekend over this course and distance with stable star Laurens, has a hugely exciting prospect on his hands for this juvenile contest.

Bought for around €700,000 by owners Phoenix Thoroughbreds in May, this son of Scat Daddy made a big impression on debut in that 1m novice event at Haydock mentioned above. While Waldstern was held-up, Kadar tracked the leaders and was pushed along before two out.

Although then angled out for a run, it took a little while for the penny to drop but when it did Kadar ran on really well and headed his rival deep inside the last. He then stretched out towards the finish to land the spoils by 1 1/4 lengths, but was value for more than that winning margin.

This display suggested Burke could have another pattern performer in the making. Kadar is second-favourite in the ante post betting for this at the time of writing but, with market leader Persian King hailing from the out of form French trainer Andre Fabre’s yard, he looks a value bet to win again despite the presence of an equally unexposed O’Brien horse in Magna Grecia.

Different League a solid each-way bet for Boadicea

Three-year-olds have a terrific record in the Listed 6f Boadicea Stakes for fillies and mares later on the Cesarewitch day card (16:50), so the O’Brien trained Different League is each-way value to cash-in on a significant ease in grade. This French import to Ballydoyle was in the care of Matthieu Palussiere when winning her first three starts last season.

Those victories include the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot where Different League beat subsequent multiple Group 1 winning filly Alpha Centauri by a neck. She then placed at that elite level in the Prix Morny at Deauville, and when runner-up over course and distance to Clemmie in the Cheveley Park Stakes before changing owners and moving to Ireland.

Things haven’t really gone to plan with Different League this season as she’s yet to get her head in front in eight starts for O’Brien. That does not tell the full story, however, as she’s finished sixth in three Group 1 assignments and beaten no more than five lengths in any of them.

Although 5lb worse off at the weights for a two-length defeat by the re-opposing Classical Times from a Listed affair at Haydock in May, that one has been off the track since the end of June and hasn’t handled the unique dip of Newmarket’s Rowley Mile course well in the past. Given the considerable ease in grade Different League gets here after finishing just 2 1/4 lengths behind Prix de l’Abbaye winner Mabs Cross at the Longchamp Arc meeting just six days ago, the extra furlong may be more up her street.

Different League has never finished outside the first three in five career starts over this trip. Now stepped back up to what looks her optimum trip, she is well worth an each-way wager from the Newmarket betting tips for October 13 on offer here.
