Superlative Stakes betting tips: Cape Of Good Hope has great chance

The Superlative Stakes betting tips given by Horsebetting.com experts say Cape Of Good Hope can build on his recent win and land the 7f Group 2 juvenile contest on day three of the July Festival at Newmarket; Saturday, 14 July. Godolphin owned colt Quorto is feared most in a wide-open renewal, while course and distance winner Neverland Rock looks the each-way value in the race. Cape gives O’Brien Good Hope of Superlative win

Cape Of Good Hope got his act together when winning at the third time of asking on his last run nine days ago, so looks worth a wager in a wide-open renewal of the 7f Group 2 Superlative Stakes for two-year-olds at Newmarket on Saturday (13:05).

Trained in Ireland by the mighty Aidan O’Brien, who saddled Gustav Klimt to land the spoils in this 12 months ago, Cape Of Good Hope is a Galileo colt out of a Danehill mare. He perhaps raced too freely on debut at Leopardstown in May and then again at The Curragh on his penultimate outing, but the penny dropped when landing an extended 7f contest at Tipperary.

Cape Of Good Hope reversed the placings on Copia Verborum when he was quickly away to make all. The front-running style had backfired on his earlier displays, but he was ridden clear with Donnacha O’Brien only employing a hands and heels ride to score by a reduced advantage of a length.

If building on this display, then Cape Of Good hope has major claims of elevating himself into group company. Jockey Ryan Moore is on a great strike rate and the yard is going well as ever, so he has to be respected in a seven-strong field where a case can be made for most.

Unexposed Quorto a definite danger

Leading owners Godolphin are also having a splendid season and their famous all-blue silks are carried by the Charlie Appleby trained Quorto in this, who is unexposed and thus a dangerous contender for juvenile Group 2 honours.

This Dubawi colt out of a Mount Nelson mare was an impressive 2 3/4 lengths winner on the July course here over 6f last month. After making headway four out, James Doyle shook Quorto up to lead before the furlong pole and he ran on well.

The way in which he finished the race off suggested stepping up an extra furlong would be no problem, and punters who study comments in running will be encouraged by the fact Quorto is down as a smart prospect from his debut.

With just that one start under his belt, he could be anything and is open to any amount of progress on a track that suits him. Connections already mean business with Quorto as he holds early closing entries in the Gimcrack during York’s Ebor Festival next month and the Group 1 National Stakes come September at The Curragh.

That shows the high regard he is already held in. Plenty expect Quorto to take this en route to a tilt at one or other of those valuable last summer contests and he is therefore one to keep tabs on here.

Neverland Rock each-way value

Richard Hannon’s Neverland Rock is a course and distance winner, so looks the each-way value if able to improve again from that victory last time out. This colt is by No Way Never and a Fastnet Rock mare and was a 2 3/4 lengths fifth on debut at Newbury to Confiding.

Although the winner hasn’t been out since, the next four home have all come out and landed their next outing. That includes the re-opposing Forseti for Andrew Balding, but Neverland Rock was denied a clear run after making ground and had to be switched again.

With only a neck to find on that rival and granted better luck in-running, it’s easy to make a case for either being involved in the finish here. The strong form of that Newbury run and the progress made since means the preference has to be for the course/distance winner.

Neverland Rock chased the leaders, was shaken up to hit the front before the final furlong and ran to score by three-quarters of a length. It gives him claims of making the frame, provided he continues to show progress.
