Supreme Stakes betting tips: Dream Of Dreams the punt in Goodwood feature

The 2018 Supreme Stakes betting tips given by Horsebetting.com experts say Dream Of Dreams is worth a wager to land the 7f Group 3 feature contest at Goodwood on Sunday, 26 August. Popular veteran Breton Rock is feared most on his recent run behind our main selection and because he’s top-rated. Dutch Connection, who won the race last year, is each-way value, meanwhile, to land consecutive renewals for owners Godolphin and trainer Charlie Hills. Read all about this race in our 2018 Supreme Stakes betting tips preview.

Dream Of Dreams can reign Supreme for Stoute

Trainer Sir Michael Stoute has saddled three former winners of the Group 3 Supreme Stakes at Goodwood, so his four-year-old colt Dream Of Dreams looks worth a wager to land the spoils in the 7f contest this year on Sunday (16:10) after improving for each run this season.

The yard tends to bring the best out of late-blooming horses of his type – see King George one-two Poet’s Word and Crystal Ocean for examples. In Dream Of Dreams, Stoute has a son of Dream Ahead that landed a Listed contest over 6f at Doncaster on his final start of last term.

He shaped as if in need of the run on return to action when seventh of eight to Brando in the Group 3 Abernant Stakes during Newmarket’s Craven meeting in April, but was then fifth in the Chipchase Stakes on the all-weather at Newcastle – a similar grade affair. Dream Of Dreams then improved again when beaten just 2 1/4 lengths over the flying five furlongs in the Coral Charge at Sandown next time up.

Perhaps lacking the pace to challenge over that trip, connections then stepped him back up to 6f on his penultimate start in the Hackwood Stakes at Newbury. There was lots to like about the way Dream Of Dreams stayed on strongly despite not having the clearest of runs, and he was only beaten half-a-length in third by Yafta.

When those two re-opposed over 7f in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes last Saturday, however, the tables were turned emphatically. Dream Of Dreams beat Yafta by six lengths as runner-up to the thriving Sir Dancealot after being headed entering the final furlong.

Although losing 1 1/4 lengths to an easing down winner, this represents a career best and he is now down in grade here. There were no excuses for Yafta either, as he was still receiving 5lb weight-for-age from Dream Of Dreams.

That ease in grade is an obvious plus, while Adam Kirby again takes the ride. A mark of 110 doesn’t look beyond Dream Of Dreams, who appeals as the type to continue the progress he has made throughout his campaign, and it’s for that reason he’s taken to land the spoils in our 2018 Supreme Stakes betting tips.

Breton Rock feared most

The top-rated horse in the 10-runner field is the David Simcock trained eight-year-old Breton Rock, who was half-a-length behind Dream Of Dreams just eight days ago in the Hungerford. This gelding is a course and distance winner and has placed at Goodwood on two other occasions from four career outings, so is feared most provided this race doesn’t come too soon.

Breton Rock landed the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at the glorious meeting 12 months ago and it is easy to disregard subsequent runs as the ground was softer than ideal on all occasions. Going is more suited to this son of Bahamian Bounty by a Rock Of Gibraltar mare now and his consecutive thirds in that higher grade behind Sir Dancealot show he still retains plenty of ability.

When trying to defend his Lennox crown on his penultimate start, Breton Rock was only beaten a neck when headed close home and losing a couple of places. He was then produced late to make the frame in the Hungerford, nabbing third on the line but no match for Sir Dancealot.

As he’s rated just 1lb above his last winning mark and 3lb superior to Dream Of Dreams, Breton Rock should be giving him plenty to think about. He is twice our main selection’s age, however, and certainly isn’t open to further progress, but will run his race and must be thriving for connections to have turned him out so quickly.

Dutch Connection each-way value after last year’s win

Trainer Charlie Hills sends Godolphin owned six-year-old Dutch Connection in search of consecutive renewals of this, but he’s been below par in runs behind key form horse Sir Dancealot and is only put up as an each-way wager in a bid to become just the third horse to land the Supreme spoils twice.

This son of Dutch Art was rated 116 at his peak and is now 2lb below his winning mark. Dutch Connection boasts a brilliant record of three wins and a second from five career outings over course and distance, so that is a 60 per cent strike rate and means he cannot be counted out as Goodwood is a unique track.

He ran his best race on seasonal appearance, however, when a 3 1/2 lengths fourth to Rhododendron in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes over 1m at Newbury, outrunning odds of 50/1. Off the back of that effort, Dutch Connection was sent off favourite for a couple of Group 3 contests but failed to deliver when dropping back to this trip.

While finishing sixth and then seventh to Sir Dancealot in the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket and then again in the Lennox here last time out aren’t good enough, he put in similar displays at The Curragh and Ascot before everything dropped right in the race 12 months ago. For that reason, coupled with his fine record at the venue, Dutch Connection is the each-way pick among our 2018 Supreme Stakes betting tips.
