TwinSpires Reviews & Ratings US 2020
Is TwinSpires Reliable & Secure?
TwinSpires US is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, and is the official betting service for Churchill Downs Incorporated and its assortment of prestigious racetracks.
TwinSpires is making a name for itself by providing wagering that involves top-notch racing information, together with cutting-edge wagering technology.
We’re also impressed that it’s overseen by the reputable Churchill Downs, home to the renowned Kentucky Derby as well as 150 years of horse racing betting history.
In short, TwinSpires US has an impressive pedigree right out of the gate. For those wondering what TwinSpires ratings must be like, let’s have a look at what they offer, and answer the questions, “is TwinSpires secure?” and “is TwinSpires reliable?”
TwinSpires: Pros & Cons
- Affiliated with Churchill Downs, and their associated history
- Based in the heart of America's horse racing culture
- Plenty of bonuses and promotions
- Also affiliated with Bloodstock Research Information Services (BRIS), which provides data on bloodstock and handicapping information for horse races
- Players must live in a state that allows online gambling
Many horse racing sites offer welcome and bonus bets in order to entice and keep customers. Although TwinSpires US is no different, we found the choice of offers by TwinSpires very impressive.
What makes TwinSpires US offers stand out from the crowd is the affiliation. There are several Kentucky Derby related bonuses, including a 20% Derby Prep Double Bonus and a Future Wager (every time your future wager horse wins a race, get a $5 bonus).
TwinSpires not only holds its own when compared to the bonuses of competitors like Watch and Wager, but it has the tenacity to be original.
There’s a Sam Houston Race Park $10,000 Payout every Wednesday, a chance to claim a share of $1,000 every Thursday in the Dubai World Cup, get a payout if your horse is 4th on Sundays at Fair Grounds.
They offer bet refunds at Turfway Park if you play the right horse in the wrong race, a $100 sign-up offer and a free Handicapper Helper courtesy of Brisnet to help you decide on which bets to place.
As soon as we loaded the TwinSpires US site, the first thing that greeted us was the wide choice of offers and promotions. These are displayed as large images laid out in a banner across the main page.
It is our personal theory that TwinSpires may have inspired the classically elegant design style that has been adopted by competitors like Keeneland Select and DRF Bets. After all, who wouldn’t want to follow in the virtual footsteps of so much history?
They can be moved between via arrows on the left and right, as well as buttons below the images.
The header of the site lays out Bet Now, Offers, News, Handicapping, and Support options, with the Join/Sign In buttons in the top right corner. Joining TwinSpires US is free, although we found the site rejects people from states that don’t allow online gambling (for example, Texas).
The footer of the site contains links to sections About Us, Churchill Downs Integrity, Privacy and Security, Terms and Conditions, Wager Responsibility and Contact. All in all, TwinSpires US puts the focus on accessibility; the site also loads very quickly on browser and mobile.
Accessibility extends to depositing/withdrawing money, as TwinSpires US offer ten different ways to do so:
- EZMoney and EZBank: no fee.
- Credit Card (Visa/Mastercard): all deposits have a $5 fee.
- GreenDot @ the Register: Minimum fee of $4.95, although different merchants may charge more.
- Moneygram: Minimum fee of $3.95, although different merchants may charge more.
- PayNearMe: Minimum fee of $3.99, although different merchants may charge more.
- Bank Wire Transfer: free if depositing more than $1000, otherwise a $10 fee.
- On-Site Deposits: visit a TwinSpires US retail outlet to deposit in person, free of charge.
- Check or Money Orders: mail to Player Services. No fee for depositing. Including personal, certified, cashiers, and traveler’s checks. Personal checks take five days to process before funds appear in your wagering account.
- PayPal: a preferred method. Bear in mind, only one PayPal account can be linked to a TwinSpires US account.
Minimum deposit amounts range from $1 through to a maximum of $1000 across these options. Withdrawals can be made using these same services, in person at a branch, or by calling the TwinSpires Player Services.
If you’re like us and wondering if TwinSpires reviews rate their customer service highly, then wonder no more. Support is easy to find and access from the main page, with multiple options available. These include email, phone, and live chat services, which operate between 9 am – midnight every day for free.
There is also a convenient FAQ, complete with a reliable search function, should you have any extra queries.
The Player Service department handles any requests and payouts, and times vary, depending on the request/payout. For example, withdrawal requests take up to five business days to process.
TwinSpires US also offers a VIP program called TSC Elite, which has its own customer service section for expedient support.
TwinSpires US has an Interactive Wagering Totalizator Hub and Multi-Jurisdictional Simulcasting License from the Oregon Racing Commission. As with Churchill Downs, TwinSpires is publicly traded on the NASDAQ stock exchange.
In terms of TwinSpires ratings for security, we were pleased to find the site features 128-bit encryption on all pages that contain account information. TwinSpires US online security is provided by Symantec and secured by SSL Version 3.
TwinSpires does not store any credit card information on its servers and is powered by VeriSign. In other words, they take our account security very seriously indeed.
A common issue with gambling, whether online or off, is age verification. TwinSpires reviews player age by asking players to input social security numbers (along with other personal information). Provided a player is old enough and doesn’t live in a state where online gambling is illegal, an account is created immediately.
TwinSpires US may request additional documentation, which is the only thing that would delay opening your account.
Anyone with an account on TwinSpires’ website automatically receives TSC Elite points when placing wagers, whether online or via phone. If TSC rings a bell but you’re not sure why, let us remind you that this is the same TSC Elite program that has been rewarding players at Churchill Downs Incorporated horse race tracks since 1995.
Players earn one point per dollar, with four points per dollar earned when wagered at Churchill Downs, Fairgrounds, Arlington and Miami Valley Raceway. TSC Elite members also receive a generous 20% discount on any purchases made on Brisnet.com. This, again, is on par with loyalty programs offered by similar companies, such as Interbets.
TwinSpires VIP program features four levels of Elite membership: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
Simply put, the more you wager, the more points you earn and the higher your level. Points can then be redeemed for wagering credits, with special bonus multipliers according to the Elite level. Points, level and bonuses can be checked at any time via logging in to the TSC Elite section of the site.
As well as this VIP program, TwinSpires US also offers a special $100 sign up bonus to new players: deposit at least $500 within the first 30 days of joining, and TwinSpires US gives you $100.
There’s also a referral service, wherein every friend you refer who joins gets you $10 and $10 for them, too! We can’t remember seeing an offer like this on similar sites, so it gets a big thumbs up from us.
Finally, any additional or day-specific offers (as noted above) can be easily found via the handy Offers tab along the top of the page.
Twinspires Sports Betting
Next up in our TwinSpires reviews, we’ll have a look at the operator in the realm of sports betting. Our TwinSpires ratings largely depend on the quality and capacity of sports wagering offered. Long story short, we want to know if the site itself is any good for sports betting.
TwinSpires is a horse bettor’s paradise. Finding a race is as easy as clicking Bet Now along the top of the page. This brings up a mini-menu of Today’s Races, Results & Replays, Scratches & Changes, Carryovers, Calendar and Players’ Pool.
Today’s Races lists all the races happening now, or soon. For example, when we checked the top listing was for 1:30 pm, Fair Grounds, Race 1. The other races are then listed below by their MTP (Minutes To Post), race track, and race number.
For us, the next listed race was in the UK, Ludlow, Race 6. Following races included other tracks in the United Kingdom (Southwell, Wolverhampton), as well as North American tracks such as Monticello Raceway, Tampa Bay Downs and Penn National.
Clicking on a race brings up detailed information in a chart, which can be switched between Basic (horse names, jockey, trainer, sire and odds); Speed (of each horse, including their run style, average speed, average distance, best speed and, again, odds); Class (days off for each runner, prime power, last class, average class, odds); Pace (run style, early pace 1, early pace 2, late pace, odds); and Angles (with a range of information including top picks and best distance).
The bottom of each chart also includes Pools, Probables, and Will Pay (if applicable). For anyone not entirely clear on some of the terms used, each part of the chart has a useful information pop-up panel with clear, concise details.
The other Bet Now choices are self-explanatory, although we have to mention that the Carryovers page has a well laid out table of races, the type of jackpot (for example, Jackpot Pick-6, Super High Five) and the monetary amount.
Our TwinSpires reviews were unable to locate any sports betting markets beyond horse racing. This took a toll on our TwinSpires ratings.
Our TwinSpires reviews found the odds to be fairly competitive for horse racing. In fact, TwinSpires features some of the best odds available for horse race betting, online or offline. Fans of the ponies will surely appreciate the odds at TwinSpires.
However, no odds for any sports other than horse racing are available. TwinSpires ratings suffer for this. In addition, wagering at TwinSpires, players have access to some special features to work the odds in their favor.
Conditional Wagering lets us decide acceptable odds and how close to the race start time a bet should be accepted: If the conditions aren’t met, the bet doesn’t go to the cart.
Lastly, if we change our mind or our horse isn’t doing so hot, Wager Cancellation takes a lot of the pressure off by letting us change or cancel the bet.
Every online gambling operator must set some sort of limits to wagers. Otherwise, a bookmaker would quickly find itself overextended, taking wagers it can’t possibly pay out. TwinSpires is no exception to the rule.
In terms of a maximum wager, TwinSpires US has a $2,500 limit. Different race tracks may have more or less lenient amounts, though. Overall, it’s a pretty generous limit, as far as online horse racing goes. That helps to boost our TwinSpires ratings.
TwinSpires US are clearly operating at the top of their game, with an astounding choice of races (including greyhounds, for anyone who fancies a change from horse racing). They also provide detailed information (including if the race is Thoroughbred or Harness).
What we think is a nice touch is that most pages contain a banner of the current and upcoming races. So if one catches your eye you can place a bet on it as easily as clicking the name. This convenience boosted our TwinSpires ratings a bit.
All that being said, our TwinSpires reviews found a disappointing lack of betting action beyond horse and greyhound racing. There’s a whole wide world of sports out there, and players at TwinSpires are missing out on almost every single one of them. It’s a real shame. TwinSpires ratings would benefit considerably from offering a broader selection of sports.
A casino is the ultimate destination for any gambler. Casinos have been around for well over a century, a gathering of the finest forms of gambling the world has to offer. They’ve become synonymous with gambling and glamour. These iconic, lavishly decorated establishments helped bring gambling into the mainstream through the 20th century.
Today, casinos are still going strong, but online casinos have changed the game forever. With far lower overhead and expenses, online casinos can afford much more competitive rates. They also bombard players with promotions and bonuses, unmatched by traditional establishments.
That’s why so many gambling operators have gone online. Even traditional bookmakers now offer online casino gambling services on their websites. Century-old betting shops are opening up online casinos left and right. However, TwinSpires remains a holdout.
Players won’t find any casino gambling opportunities at TwinSpires. Curiously, TwinSpires has chosen to specialize rather than diversify. While every other horse betting operator offers sports betting in general, TwinSpires focuses exclusively on racing.
While every other operator is looking to increase revenue with a casino section, TwinSpires seems wholly uninterested. There is no indication on the website that this situation will change in the future.
When you gamble at a brick-and-mortar casino, you’re trusting that their machines are safe. However, it’s not such a big leap of faith, considering that casinos are highly regulated. It’s safe to say that there’s plenty of state oversight to ensure games available are fair.
However, gambling online, things are a little different. Online casinos are far less tightly controlled than their offline counterparts. Their regulatory bodies are often offshore authorities too. That’s why players check out software developers.
The best gaming software companies won’t get in bed with just any shady operator. Seeing companies like NetEnt, IGT or Barcrest behind the games lets players know a casino is likely fair and legit.
Sadly, as mentioned above in our TwinSpires reviews, the operator does not have a Casino section to speak of. Therefore, there are no software providers to vet here. TwinSpires ratings take quite a dive on this count.
Online casinos live and die by their game portfolios. They’re the meat of the casino dinner course. From online slots to casino card & table games, they’re some of the most iconic gambling experiences.
Typical game selections include roulette, blackjack, casino poker, jackpot slots, baccarat, and craps. With horse betting operators, horse racing-themed slots are frequent, as are virtual horse racing games. TwinSpires has none such games available, though. Our TwinSpires reviews found a total absence of casino games of any kind.
Online casinos are well and good, but, what’s a player to do when they’re itching for the feeling of a real casino dealer? A simulation can never match the thrill of a real person dealing out real cards or spinning the roulette. That’s why so many operators offer Live Casino services.
Normally, these include live video streams of professional casino dealers. A variety of games are usually available, including blackjack, sic bo, roulette, and punto banco. Still, TwinSpires doesn’t currently incorporate any sort of casino gambling services, including a Live Casino section.
Legitimate online gambling operators will never take action they can’t afford to make good on. If a wager exceeds what a casino can handle, a responsible casino will always turn it down. In online casinos, every game typically has its own set of betting limits.
Both minimum and maximum limits exist for every spin of the slots or hand at the tables. In TwinSpires’ case, though, there are no casino tables to speak of, and thus, no limits to discuss.
Today, an online gambler has virtually countless options for online casino gambling action. There’s many, many operators willing and able to take your deposits. Most of them will even throw in a good welcome bonus, to boot.
For some reason, TwinSpires isn’t one of these operators. This traditional horse race betting bookmaker seems to resist shifting its focus anywhere else. In fact, TwinSpires still refuses to open its sportsbook to other sports beyond racing.
Considering that, it seems very unlikely that TwinSpires would venture into casino gambling any time soon. If you’re an avid casino player, you’ll be far better off elsewhere.
Poker is one of the world’s favorite forms of gambling. The game has continued to rise in popularity in recent years, with online poker being the main driving force. Consequently, tons of operators have opened up their own poker rooms.
However, TwinSpires isn’t one of them. TwinSpires remains true to its horse racing roots, and so far has shown no signs of venturing into poker. Many gambling sites that don’t have poker rooms will instead feature video poker options, to offer poker fans some kind of outlet. That isn’t the case with TwinSpires, either.
As a matter of fact, TwinSpires offers no casino gambling services at all. Therefore, even video poker is out of the question. Poker fans looking for cash games or tournaments at TwinSpires have definitely come to the wrong place.
Without even a Casino section to speak of, it’s quite unlikely that TwinSpires will offer poker in the future, either. This takes a toll on our overall TwinSpires ratings.
Online poker is highly dependent on the quality of the software used. Every operator has their own software solution for poker players. The number of players, the average skill level and the easy of download and installation are all relevant factors here.
As TwinSpires offers no poker services, though, there are no software details to discuss.
Online poker rooms offer many different game types. Common types include Omaha, Seven Card Stud, and Texas Hold’em. Tables typically charge a rake, which is a small percentage out of every pot that goes to the casino. It’s usually about 2-10%.
Our TwinSpires reviews found that no poker games of any kind are available here.
Tournaments are one of the most popular types of poker experiences out there. It’s how players test their mettle against the rest, and find out who is the best. Most poker pros today had their start in online poker tournaments.
As our TwinSpires reviews found no poker games available, there are of course no tournaments to speak of.
Several different kinds of limits are deployed in poker rooms. They include fixed limits, pot limits, and no limit games. However, since no poker games were found by our TwinSpires reviews, no limits are applicable.
TwinSpires ratings may be great as a horse betting operator. However, in the field of poker, it leaves much to be desired. Many operators have deficient poker sections, but TwinSpires doesn’t even try to offer one.
Without a casino section either, the operator doesn’t even have video poker options. Card players at TwinSpires can do little but fiddle their thumbs. Worst still for TwinSpires ratings, the situation seems unlikely to change in the near future.
At first glance, the TwinSpires US website appears lacking in content. However, what seems bare bones at first, soon reveals itself to be a design choice. TwinSpires prides itself on easy access to a wealth of information over unnecessary bells and whistles. Race details are clearly presented.
Our TwinSpires reviews found the terms, conditions, and support are easy to access and read. Extra information (such as Responsible Gambling) is visibly listed as well.
One thing we really appreciate about TwinSpires is the Betting Terms page. This is a glossary of horse racing terms. So, if you’re new to the world of racing, TwinSpires makes it all simple to understand. And as we all know, knowledge is power! Informed bets are much likelier to take you where you want to go.
