The latest BHA plan and Flat fixtures released today detail how the early weeks of the season pan out.
Guineas Weekend remains on 6-7 June with Royal Ascot still on 16-20 June. The Derby and The Oaks, staying at Epsom Downs, meanwhile, have the provisional date of 4 July.
This was the scheduled day for the Eclipse at Sandown Park, but it now moves back 24 hours. That Group 1 contest has a change of conditions this year, however.
Given the race’s proximity to the Classics, it will only be open to older horses. Another race that to change is the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes for older fillies and mares.
This event is usually run over nine furlongs, but this year has a trip of a mile-and-quarter. Assuming a 1 June start planned for Newcastle, there are 20 black type races in the first week of the BHA plan.
Starting on 3 June with a 1m 2f Group 3 Classic Trial at Kempton Park, this is a busy series of Flat fixtures. The first Group 1 of the season is 5 June with the 1m 4f Coronation Cup at Newmarket instead of Epsom.
