Glorious Goodwood day 4 betting tips – Euchen Glen can be Glorious

In the 1m 4f Group 3 Glorious Stakes (16:10), EUCHEN GLEN looks well worth a wager. Jim Goldie’s stable star makes a very long trek down from Scotland for this assignment. Although now an eight-year-old, Euchen Glen is better than ever after two wins at Sandown this season. He loves soft ground, and there’s more rain to come.

After finishing out of the frame on his first couple of starts at Newbury and Chester, the Authorized gelding bolted up in this grade. That came in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes, where Euchen Glen scored by over four lengths from Sangarius. He then found the going too quick in the Wolferton Stakes under a penalty at Royal Ascot.

When back on a softer surface, Euchen Glen resumed winning ways in the Gala Stakes. The way he is finishing off his races over 1m 2f suggests than an easy 1m 4f here is well within him still. Euchen Glen is also proven over further, so stepping back up in trip should be no problem for him. A rating of 116 puts him second best in the line-up behind Mogul, who has been in and out.

There is lots to like about Euchen Glen, who has thrived in these forecast conditions. With Godolphin runner Passion And Glory also respected, for all that one must prove himself at this level, the value play is shrewd handler Goldie’s gelding here. Euchen Glen is a 4/1 chance with Coral for another Group 3 win and appeals most from our Glorious Goodwood day 4 betting tips this year.

Golden Mile betting tips – Maydanny solid each-way value

In the Golden Mile Handicap earlier on the card (15:00), I’m pleased to see my ante-post fancy MAYDANNY rerouted here. Trained by Mark Johnston for Shadwell Estates, this five-year-old Dubwai gelding bolted up here in last year’s Chesterfield Cup over further. Although now 12lb higher in the weights, Maydanny has made his current mark of 102 look workable in one of these big field handicaps.

He was a fine runner-up to old rival Bell Rock in the Suffolk Stakes Handicap at Newmarket on reappearance during Guineas Weekend. While Maydanny was down the field in the Royal Hunt Cup during Royal Ascot, his three-quarters of a length second in the Coral Challenge on Eclipse day at Sandown earlier this month also reads well in relation to this.

The assessor has also cut Maydanny 1lb of slack for his three-quarters of a length defeat. I’ve always felt that a strongly run mile suits him best. The only question mark here is whether conditions will be sound enough for Johnston to allow him to take his chance. As noted above, showers are forecast for Goodwood still.

However, there is no denying Maydanny’s ability. Magical Morning gets in under a penalty, yet actually meets him off 2lb better terms. Maydanny has the course experience on his side, however, and it’s for that reason that the 9/1 with Boylesports looks a great each-way bet. There are many others in with chances here, and any good Glorious Goodwood day 4 betting tips should highlight that.

King George Stakes betting tips – Dragon Symbol can finally win

Four-time race winner Battaash remains a popular favourite for the 5f Group 2 King George Stakes (15:45). His victories in this have all been on quick ground, however, and the value may lie elsewhere. Dragon Symbol is next best on official ratings, and could go one better than his recent efforts here.

Trained by Archie Watson, the three-year-old Cable bay colt has three seconds next to his name. An unlucky loser on the first two occasions, he reversed Sandy Lane Stakes form with Rohaan in the July Cup last time out. Dragon Symbol was first past the post in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot in-between those efforts, yet lost the race in the stewards room.

It’s interesting that connections drop him back down to the minimum trip in conditions that are no problem. Something similar worked with Oxted, profiting from Battaash’s lack of race fitness in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot. It may prove wise doing likewise with Dragon Symbol here, who is the apple of jockey Oisin Murphy’s eye.

There is definitely a top sprint in this young horse. While Battaash should come on for his return, he does concede 4lb to Dragon Symbol here. Conditions will also suit Glass Slippers, yet she has never won first time out. Therefore, Dragon Symbol gets the vote at 7/2 with Bet365 for this. He is the best of our King George Stakes betting tips and the last of the Glorious Goodwood day 4 betting tips on offer.
