This Thursday at the Qatar Goodwood Festival, it’s the Nassau Stakes and we’ve got Glorious Goodwood day 3 betting tips for the best of Ladies Day. Although there’s only a small field in the feature race, that is because of the wet weather. It means soft, even heavy ground. The trip in every race will take some getting, then. Read on and see which horses appeal to our experts.

Glorious Goodwood day 3 betting tips – King Frankel the Kincsem choice

Yorkshire trainer Mark Johnston saddles four in the opening 1m 2f Kincsem Handicap (13:50), and KING FRANKEL has been there or thereabouts in races of this nature this season. He finished runner-up at this venue twice as a juvenile, including on the forecast ground on his final start of last term.

King Frankel bolted up by 32 lengths at Pontefract on his second outing of the campaign. Johnston went down the handicap route with him after that romp, finishing runner-up in the London Gold Cup at Newbury off 82. King Frankel then filled the same spot in another event at Epsom during the Derby Festival off 6lb higher. He was an unlucky nose second there, conceding 10lb to the winner.

As King Frankel then stayed on into fourth in the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot off his current rating of 91, it is not beyond him. The mile-and-a-quarter trip will take some getting in the forecast ground, which he should handle based on that outing at the royal meeting. A line does need putting through King Frankel’s last effort at Newmarket, however.

He was never travelling that day and eased in the final furlong. Joe Fanning is now back on board, and King Frankel’s rating gets him into this off a nice racing weight of 8st 5lb. A few of those below him in the weight race from out of the handicap. King Frankel is 8/1 with William Hill to give a much better account of himself here.

Gordon Stakes betting tips – Sir Lucan looks each-way value

In the 1m 4f Group 3 Gordon Stakes, another three-year-olds only race (15:00), SIR LUCAN looks overpriced to me. One of two trained by Aidan O’Brien, who saddled last year’s winner in Mogul, this Camelot colt is a full brother to Sir Dragonet. That one went well with cut in the ground, while the sire won the Irish Derby on soft/heavy going.

Sir Lucan ran fourth in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes on his final start as a juvenile. He was then never really put in the race on reappearance in the Sandown Classic Trial. That event has thrown up all sorts of subsequent winners with the first home all going in again since. Sir Lucan also got his head in front last time out.

He overhauled re-opposing stable companion Wordsworth close home in the Listed 1m 5f Yeats Stakes by a neck. The runner-up has since filled the same spot in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and Grand Prix de Paris, as well as coming third in the Irish Derby. I think Wordsworth wants the St Leger trip now, rather than running in a trial over an inadequate distance.

The ground is also a concern for Godolphin gelding Yibir, who I tipped for the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket earlier this month. It doesn’t make sense that these horses are shorter in the betting right now, so my Glorious Goodwood day 3 betting tips say the 8/1 with Betfair about Sir Lucan looks a solid each-way punt.

Nassau Stakes betting tips – Audarya appeals to go one better

Only six fillies and mares line up for the 1m 2f Group 1 Nassau Stakes (15:35), but AUDARYA is a confident selection. James Fanshawe’s charge progressed out of all recognition last season in really likeable and gutsy fashion. She also proved her versatility, handling various types of going underfoot.

After winning an All-Weather handicap at Newcastle, Audarya pulled off a massive shock when plundering the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville. The five-year-old defied odds of 48/1 on the pari-mutuel. Audarya was then a fine length third in the Prix de l’Opera on Arc day at Longchamp with subsequent Breeders’ Cup heroine Tarnawa taking victory.

Not to be outdone by Dermot Weld’s mare, Audarya also scored at Keeneland in the Filly and Mare Turf race. She prevailed by a neck and the daughter of Wootton Bassett looked as good as ever on reappearance at Royal Ascot. Only Love was three-quarters of a length too strong for her in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

It gives Audarya, a standout 15/8 with William Hill, leading form claims. Any Nassau Stakes betting tips should highlight she concedes 9lb weight for age to the three-year-olds. Joan Of Arc may be her biggest danger as a result following a win in the Prix de Diane, and O’Brien also sends Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Empress Josephine here who loves heavy ground.
