Commonwealth Cup betting tips – Side with Suesa at Ascot
French raider SUESA comes to Royal Ascot unbeaten, so commands tons of respect. A progressive filly by Night Of Thunder and owned by George Strawbridge, she is four from four at Chantilly. After winning her maiden, and the fourth has come out and won, she made an effortless step up in grade to Listed level on her final start as a juvenile.
A two-length victory over Total Knockout, who has scored since, set Suesa up for Group races this season. She progressed again with a ready 3 1/2 lengths victory on reappearance after Strawbridge bought her out of the Carlos Laffon-Parais stable and joined current trainer Francois Rohaut. The third home, Ideal Beauty, has since come out and landed another Group 3 at Longchamp.
Suesa followed-up and completed the four-timer under a penalty when quickening three lengths and upwards clear of the field. The runner-up has gone on to taste Listed success, so again the form looks good. With rain forecast at Royal Ascot, the going could ease to something approaching the good to soft ground that she won her first Group 3 on.
Taking all that into account, and an eye-catching jockey booking in William Buick, Suesa has strong claims of taking a further step up in grade. Therefore, her odds of 5/1 with Betfred who pay five places, look a value punt granted further improvement. Suesa’s upward curve cannot be ignored.

Past Royal Ascot winner Campanelle feared
American trainer Wesley Ward loves this meeting. He went so close to winning this race last year with Kimari finishing runner-up. Our Commonwealth Cup betting tips therefore highlight how stable representative CAMPANELLE is of obvious interest. She is already a Royal Ascot winner after landing the Queen Mary Stakes 12 months ago.
Campanelle led well inside the final furlong and was on top at the finish, prevailing by three-quarters of a length over Sacred. The runner-up has gone on to land the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes this season. As Campanelle kept on well over the minimum trip, she left the distinct impression that she could be even better over further.
That proved to be the case on her last European start in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deuville. Campanelle lengthened under Frankie Dettori when ridden approaching the final furlong and stayed on strongly on soft ground for a two-length win. She beat two other Royal Ascot juvenile winners in Nando Parrado and Tactical, who has since taken a Listed handicap at Newmarket.
While the 1m Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf stretched Campanelle’s stamina to the limit, this has been a target since last season. Dettori again takes the ride and, given her connections, she rates a big danger. Campanelle, who is versatile as regards ground, is 9/2 with 888sport to follow-up on her win here last year. It would be no surprise if she did either.
Miss Amulet overpriced and each-way value
The one I like most at bigger odds in a typically wide-open renewal is Irish raider MISS AMULET. Trained by Ken Condon, this grey Sir Prancealot filly looks an out and out sprinter. She progressed with plenty of racing as a juvenile, landing a Listed contest at Naas following victory in a Cork maiden.
Miss Amulet then made the step up in grade with Group 2 success in the Lowther Stakes over this trip at York’s Ebor Festival. She prevailed over the aforementioned Sacred by a length, staying on well in the final furlong. As Miss Amulet has since placed twice at the highest level when runner-up in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket and third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, she is well worth another crack at this level.
In the latter, she lost second close home with subsequent 1000 Guineas heroine Mother Earth a neck in front of her at the line. Trying the mile trip again in the Irish 2000 Guineas on heavy ground always looked like the wrong race for me. Miss Amulet’s pedigree is much suited to a strongly run 6f than tackling that Classic.
Now dropping back in trip, she should give a much better account of herself after finishing down the field at The Curragh. I really think Miss Amulet can outrun standout odds of 25/1 with Bet365 and into the frame. They pay four places on each-way bets and she could well be amongst those with other bookies paying out on fifth.
