Royal Ascot Wednesday betting tips – Lady Bowthorpe your best bet

LADY BOWTHORPE ran into the phenomenal Palace Pier when last in action, so can cash in on a drop in grade for the 1m Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Ascot (15:40). The undisputed stable star of Newmarket handler William Jarvis, this five-year-old is back against fellow fillies and mares now after a great effort in open company.

A daughter of Nathaniel, Lady Bowthorpe won on the round course here last season. That came in the Group 3 Valiant Stakes which see turned into an almost five-length romp. There were excuses on her final two starts of last season, and she resumed winning ways in the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes when she made her reappearance at Newmarket’s Guineas Festival.

As Lady Bowthorpe kept on well over further and held the re-opposing Queen Power by a head, there was a lot to like about her attitude. The runner-up has since bolted up by eight lengths in another Group 2 at York, which advertises the form nicely. As the pair meet off the same terms, there is no reason why Lady Bowthorpe shouldn’t win again.

Queen Power has put her best foot forward over longer trips than a mile. The market suggests this is a two-horse race with odds of 12/1 bar the old rivals available at the time of writing. Ratings topper Lady Bowthorpe is the one to be on, though, at 2/1 with Betfred for another win at a major meeting off the back of her gallant runner-up effort in the Lockinge Stakes.

Queen’s Vase betting tips – Wordsworth can go one better

Prior to the NAP of our Royal Ascot Wednesday betting tips running, WORDSWORTH is one of three entered in the 1m 6f Queen’s Vase for Irish master trainer Aidan O’Brien (15:05). An unlucky loser last time out, he can re-establish his Classic claims for the St Leger in this three-year-olds only event.

The stable has farmed this race in recent years with five wins since 2013 and seven overall. In Wordsworth, Ballydoyle have a Galileo colt who chased home subsequent Beresford Stakes winner, Dante third and Irish Derby favourite High Definition in a Curragh maiden on his racecourse debut. He went one better when upped in trip to 1m 2f at the same venue on reappearance.

Wordsworth was then an unlucky loser when chinned close home by Sir Lucan in the Listed 1m 5f Yeats Stakes. I don’t think Seamie Heffernan gave him a great ride that day, hitting the front far too early and then niggling at him until coming under a serious ride approaching two out. If that spin around Navan has brought Wordsworth on, however, then he should improve.

Ryan Moore now takes the ride again after partnering him to his maiden win. Wordsworth is a top-price 11/4 with Bet365 for the Queen’s Vase. There are dangers, including stable companion Arturo Toscanini, Ruling and Taipan with the Emerald Isle raiders having some of the smartest form in the race.

Golden Bell a solid each-way bet for Windsor Castle

I’m not giving many juvenile tips during the meeting, but in the Listed 5f Windsor Castle Stakes (17:35), GOLDEN BELL looks well worth considering each-way. One of two in the race for American trainer Wesley Ward, this Macho Uno filly is available at more than three times the price of stable companion Ruthin.

While that one was expected to win her maiden, Golden Bell only needed pushing out for a 5 1/4 lengths victory over the other joint-favourite. The fact that the stable doesn’t just rely on Ruthin is interesting. Both fillies are unexposed compared to some of the British and Irish contingent coming here off two or three outings.

The way Golden Bell made all the running after breaking well, then finding plenty for pressure when pressed two out and kicked clear was impressive. She only needed pushing out for a 5 1/4 lengths success. If building on a taking debut, she looks overpriced compared to the apparent first string at 11/1 with 888Sport and completes the Royal Ascot Wednesday betting tips as an each-way bet.
