Ascot betting tips – Century Dream the Summer Mile choice
The big race at Ascot this Saturday is the Group 2 Summer Mile (15:00), and CENTURY DREAM may be best suited by the ground. Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, this seven-year-old son of Cape Cross relishes a softer surface. The key piece of form in relation to this is last summer’s Celebration Mile at Goodwood.
Century Dream bolted up by 4 1/2 lengths from re-opposing rival Sir Busker, who has since run a fine third in the Queen Anne at the royal meeting. He shaped as if needing the run when ninth in the Lockinge at Newbury and has since run well when chinned on the line by Oh This Is Us in the Diomed Stakes around Epsom Downs.
As Century Dream reversed previous form with Top Rank, another who re-opposes, in the Listed 1m Midsummer Stakes at Windsor last time out, he could be the one. Juddmonte runner Tilsit and Lincoln Handicap winner Haqeeqy also have claims, but Century Dream has the most solid profile. He is therefore the value bet at 6/1 with Bet365 for more Group 2 success.

Belmont Park betting tips – O’Brien duo can deliver Derby and Oaks double
Aidan O’Brien sends beaten Epsom Oaks and Epsom Derby favourites SANTA BARBARA and Bolshoi Ballet over to America to Belmont Park in search of compensation. The former tackles the 1m 2f Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational (21:06) after posting a career-best in defeat last time out.
While Santa Barbara didn’t stay the 1m 4f of the British Classic, she looked a winner in waiting at the highest level when narrowly denied in the Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh. She was held just a neck by Thundering Night in a battling finish. Santa Barbara is 10/11 with William Hill to go one better.
BOLSHOI BALLET also shaped as a non-stayer in the Epsom Derby, so dropping back in trip should suit him for the Belmont Derby Invitational (22:12). His two Group 3 wins in Irish Classic trials were the reason why became favourite for the big one.
The fourth home from the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial, Mac Swiney, came out and won the Irish 2000 Guineas, so Bolshoi Ballet has good back form. Ryan Moore makes the transatlantic trip with these Coolmore horses, and takes the ride on both. Odds of 6/5 with Betfair say Bolshoi Ballet can get back on track.
Chester betting tips – Improving Rhoscolyn can take City Plate
In the feature Listed 7f City Plate at Chester (15:25), RHOSCOLYN can land the four-timer now stepping out of handicap company. One of two three-year-olds in the race, this David O’Meara trained Territories gelding has won at Beverley, Goodwood and Epsom in the manner of a progressive prospect.
Although meeting Oo De Lally off 4lb worse terms from Goodwood, Rhoscolyn came out and bolted up by four lengths when completing his hat-trick last time out. He has improved 30lb, according to the assessor, since beginning his winning sequence off 74.
The opposition, which includes the aforementioned Oh This Is Us and Safe Voyage aren’t getting any younger. Both are eight-year-olds now, and the latter has been very disappointing in his last three starts. Rhoscolyn therefore looks worth a wager at 11/4 with William Hill to make another step up.
York betting tips – Fujaira Prince up for the Silver Cup
On John Smith’s Cup day at York, meanwhile, the 1m 6f Group 3 Silver Cup sees last year’s Ebor winner FUJAIRA PRINCE making his reappearance. Trained by Roger Varian for Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, this seven-year-old Pivotal gelding won first time out last season following a lengthy lay-off.
After taking the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot, Fujaira Prince followed-up with Ebor glory. A repeat of that effort, his subsequent second in the Irish St Leger to Search For A Song or a fine third in the Long Distance Cup on British Champions Day is more than enough to win this.
Market rivals such as Hukum have stamina to prove after not lasting home in the St Leger last autumn. Jorvik Handicap winner Ilaraab must bounce back after a disappointing eighth in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, Therefore, Fujaira Prince is a 5/1 fancy with Bet365 for a winning return and we know he goes well fresh.

Moss Gill the City Walls Stakes selection
Although race terms favour course and distance winner Winter Power from earlier in the season, MOSS GILL looks better value for the Listed 5f City Walls Stakes (16:40). Trained by Edward Bethell, whose small stable has showed some signs of form this month, the five-year-old No Nay Never gelding won this race 12 months ago.
On a form line through King’s Lynn, who Moss Gill chased home last time out in the Achilles Stakes at Haydock, he looks overpriced in relation to Winter Power. In these black type sprint contests, it’s hard to rule out any horse. Moss Gill, who was third in last year’s Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes over course and distance, has shown more since than the re-opposing runner-up Que Amoro.
With Winter Power needing to prove she can handle open company, and other old favourites in the line-up, this is a trappy race. Nonetheless, Moss Gill gets a tentative vote at 11/2 with Bet365, and completes our 10 July betting tips from around the UK and USA.
