It’s another busy Saturday of horse racing action with Classic claims on the line and Lingfield betting tips given. There is also a mixed card at Haydock and the Victoria Cup meeting at Ascot. See the seven selections made by Horsebetting.com tipsters below across these three meetings…
Lingfield betting tips – Kyprios can take Derby Trial
KYPRIOS is the choice of Ryan Moore in the Listed 1m 3f Derby Trial at Lingfield (14:50). Trained by Aidan O’Brien, who has won this race fives before, this Galileo colt is two from three career starts. Kyprios won a Galway maiden in September, but couldn’t follow-up in the Zetland Stakes at Newmarket.
The ground was heavy that day and he was never travelling. A line can be put through that effort, esepcially s Kyprios made a winning return to action at Cork. He ran on and hit the front approaching the final furlong, and was always doing enough thereafter.
This demands more, but Kyprios is bred for a further step up in trip and his master handler does superbly well with Coolmore bloodstock. The big danger is Godolphin runner Adayar, who has placed at Group 3 level running on as though this extra distance would suit.
Those powerful owners have won the race before, but trainer Charlie Appleby hasn’t. Kyprios instead appeals for further progress en route perhaps to Epsom or the Irish Derby at The Curragh. He is a standout 9/2 with Betfair for success in this official Classic trial.
It’s all about Technique in Oaks Trial
In the the other Listed race, the Oaks Trial (14:15), our Lingfield betting tips say there is lots to like about TECHNIQUE. Trained by Martyn Meade, who will be hoping for better here than 1000 Guineas flop Statement, the daughter of Mastercraftsman was an unlucky loser last time out.
Technique went down by just a head in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom itself. Although the winner, Wirko, hasn’t advertised the form when only coming fourth in the Chester Vase, it still looks solid. That is because Technique finished in front of a whole host of previous winners.
An official rating of 97 puts her top of the pile in this similar grade affair. As Technique is by a Sea The Stars mare, stepping up in trip shouldn’t be any problem for her based on a purple pedigree. She looks well work another crack at this level, and Sean Levey again takes the ride here. At odds of 100/30 with William Hill, Technique could well go one better in this.
It’s 5/1 bar at the time of writing, so Divinely may be overpriced for the O’Brien team. A Group 3 winner as a juvenile, her cause wasn’t helped by going down rather than up in trip on her final start of last season. A 10/1 price with Betfair looks a bit of each-way value now dropping significantly in grade on her return to action.
Isabella Giles could bounce back in Chartwell
In the 7f Group 3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes (15:25), ISABELLA GILES gets weight from all but one rival. With terms in her favour, she could resume winning ways for trainer Clive Cox. Victories in the Prestige and Rockfel Stakes as a juvenile were no accident, so this daughter of Belardo clearly has ability.
Her last two runs have been around Newmarket and Newbury in Classic trials. It may be that Isabella Giles simply doesn’t handle those tracks with long home straights. The fact she was only beaten three lengths in the Fred Darling on reappearance suggests that all her talent is still there.
Isabella Giles may well come on for the run here. Cox also has William Buick taking the ride for the first time. That looks very significant, as he is Godolphin’s retained rider but they don’t have a runner here. On adjusted ratings, Isabella Giles is the one to beat. She receives 5lb from her elders in this contest.
This could be a shrewd bit of placing if Isabella Giles leaves her previous couple of outings behind. She is a keen going sort, and Lingfield can appeal to nippy types. Taking all that into account, a 9/2 price with William Hill about Isabella Giles looks well worth taking in what admittedly is an open contest.
Haydock betting tips – Copperless could gain compensation in Swinton
The big race on Merseyside and it our Haydock betting tips in the extended 1m 7f Grade 3 Swinton Handicap Hurdle (15:10). Many have claims in a wide-open renewal, but COPPERLESS could gain compensation following a fall last time out. Trained by Olly Murphy, this six-year-old Kayf Tara gelding looked progressive prior to that.
Copperless beat the re-opposing Hooper, who has since notched a hat-trick, at Market Rasen last autumn. He then built on that with a winning handicap debut around Taunton after taking the winter off. Murphy has clearly mind this horse with a spring campaign in mind.
The headway made by Copperless from three out at Aintree last month looked menacing. He was tracking the leaders when coming to grief at the penultimate flight and still cruising. We don’t know for sure what would’ve happened, but Copperless may have been involved in the finish with re-opposing 1-2 Camprond and Rowland Ward.
Although the handicapper has put Copperless up 3lb for not completing, that also suggests he gave the assessor a similar impression. Each of the horses name-checked are prominent in the betting here too. However,Copperless could resume his progress, granted a clear round. He is 11/2 with Bet365 to do just that.

Cracking Find a cracking bet in finale
The other horse I like in these Haydock betting tips is CRACKING FIND in the last (17:35), a handicap chase over the extended 2m 2f. Trained by Sue Smith, who is bang in-form, a wind operation has really helped this 10-year-old get back to winning ways last time out.
Cracking Find ended a long losing run at Newcastle off just 2lb lower than his current mark when beating previous Ascot handicap winner Defi Sacre. Rated 137 at his peak, nobody is suggesting that the Robin Des Pres gelding is in that sort of shape at this stage of his career. However, Cracking Find should be capable of following-up off almost a stone-and-a-half lower than his very best.
At the 48-hour stage before this race, the Smith stable was on a 40 per cent strike rate and both of its last two runners won. Cracking Find has a win and place ratio of 60 per cent over fences. Racing off bottom-weight in this class 3 contest is also an obvious plus.
Smith books Aidan Coleman for the ride, and that suggests connections are having a go. Many of those above Cracking Find in the weights look exposed and badly handicapped to me. It would be no surprise, then, if he continues his revival with another victory. Cracking Find is 4/1 with 888sport to follow-up.

Ascot betting tips – Don’t place Buckhounds bet Without A Fight
At Ascot, the Victoria Cup is one of those big-field Flat handicap nightmares. There are 29 runners, so I say leave well alone. There is a selection from the Berkshire track, however, in the Listed 1m 4f Buckhounds Stakes earlier on the card (14:30) in Without A Fight. Trained by the Crisfords, the four-year-old Teofilo gelding should come on for his reappearance.
After progressing last season and landing a Haydock handicap, Without A Fight placed here in the Noel Murless Stakes on his final start. The 1m 6f trip seemed to stretch his stamina as he faded in the final furlong. When dropped down in distance on reappearance, however, Without A Fight was running on behind Al Aasy in the Group 3 John Porter at Newbury.
He beat a number of re-opposing rivals there; so, if coming on for the run, should do so again. This is also an ease in grade for Without A Fight. Andrea Atzeni, retained rider to Sheikh Mohammed Obaid, picks him over owner companion Lost Eden too. There should be some more progress in Without A Fight, which is more than can be said for others in the line-up.
In what is still an open contest, he appeals most. The 4/1 with Boylesports about Without A Fight is the last of my Ascot betting tips before the royal meeting next month. There will be plenty of coverage on that through Horsebetting.com, so look out for that in June.
