Read our 2018 188Bet Handicap betting tips preview to find out full details why.History Writer the one to be on in 188Bet HandicapHistory Writer has a progressive profile and course winning form, so looks the answer to the 1m 2f 188Bet Handicap at Sandown on Saturday (14:25) now stepped up in trip following an eye-catching effort last time out. The David Menuisier trained three-year-old got off the mark in terrific style at the venue when beating Leadham by 2 1/2 lengths over 1m.
After tracking the leaders, the son of Canford Cliffs made smooth headway on the outside two form home before quickening clear inside the last to score with any amount in hand. History Writer got put up 7lb for that facile success, but showed that his revised rating of 92 was not beyond him when sixth of 13 to Argentello – again over 1m – at Newmarket 15 days ago.
He stayed on strongly after racing in the rear to be nearest at the finish and beaten 3 1/2 lengths. The way in which he finished off the race from an uncompromising position suggested that the extra two furlongs of this would be right up his street.
The return to this venue, where he also ran well on racecourse debut when third, is also a plus – as his his trainer’s record at the track. Menuisier has a 25 per cent strike rate in the past 12 months at the Esher venue, saddling three winners and having four placed from 12 runners.
History Writer also looks the type that has more to offer after just six starts and – off 8st 10lb – receives weight from all bar one of his rivals. He looks to have the perfect profile for this, so therefore had to be the main punt in our 188Bet Handicap betting tips.Almoreb weighted to go wellAlmoreb has course winning form to his name and been given a chance by the handicapper. The Richard Hannon trained four-year-old is now just 1lb higher than when last successful at Chelmsford 12 months ago off a mark of 87, so looks weighted to run a big race on the pick of his form.
That win was a third for Almoreb during a productive 2017 campaign. He went on to finish a solid third over 1m here off a rating of 92 and a decent second to Ayrad at Salisbury off the same rating. Although yet to get his head in front in five starts this season, the son of Raven’s Pass has often shaped better than the bare result suggests and made the frame on two occasions.
Almoreb also looks well worth another crack at the 1m 2f trip of this judged on his staying on third to Breden last time out over 1m at Newbury. The forecast slower ground is also in his favour and he goes well for Jim Crowley, who has partnered him to two of his three career successes.
So, taking everything into account, Almoreb has more going for him than his double figure odds would suggest. Thus he had to feature among our tips for this and looks the one most likely to give History Writer most to think about.Class-dropping Billesdon Bess appeals each-wayA case can be made for most in a wide-open contest but, at the odds on offer, Almoreb’s stable companion Billesdon Bess makes the most appeal each-way now dropped in class. This filly progressed throughout last season when winning three times and has a healthy strike rate of 33 per cent over the 1m 2f trip of this.
In the last of those successes 12 months ago, the four-year-old daughter of Dick Turpin overcame trouble in-running to comfortably beat High Hopes by a length in a Listed contest at Salisbury off an official rating of 91. The assessor hit her with a 10lb rise for that victory and Billesdon Bess has failed to make the frame in five starts this season.
However, she wasn’t beaten far when fourth to First Sitting in a Listed contest at Goodwood and shaped a bit better than the bare result suggests in a similar grade affair last time out at Salisbury when a a staying on 9 1/2 lengths fourth to Chain Of Daisies having been given far too much to do.
This is easier and, having been dropped a further 2lb, Billesdon Bess doesn’t look too badly treated off a mark of 97 on the pick of her form. She thus features as the each-way punt in our 188Bet Handicap betting tips.Your Next Bet
