Prix de l’Opera betting tips – Tawkeel the value

There is plenty of Group 1 action on Arc day at Longchamp and, in the 1m 2f Prix de l’Opera for fillies and mares (15:50), the unbeaten Tawkeel looks worth a wager.

Trained by the in-form Jean-Claude Rouget, this Hamdan Al Maktoum owned three-year-old daughter of Teofilo is two from two over the trip. Tawkeel won three minor events on the all-weather before switching to turf.

Her bow on grass came in the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary at Chantilly where she ran on and shot five lengths clear in the final furlong.

The runner-up, Magic Attitude, has done plenty to advertise the form after landing the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks in America.

Tawkeel confirmed the Saint-Alary form with the third home, Solsticia, in a Group 2 on very soft ground at Deauville when last in action.

She found plenty when pressed by the re-opposing Tickle Me Green, holding her nearest rival by half-a-length. The Prix de l’Opera demands more but Tawkeel hasn’t put a foot wrong.

Handler Rouget also came into Arc weekend on a 45 per cent strike rate with his runners in the last 14 days. With regular jockey Cristian Demuro once again in the saddle, Tawkeel appeals most.

The forecast heavy going is far from ideal for her rivals, including Prix de Diane heroine Fancy Blue. Alpine Star could be a bigger danger for Jessica Harrington.

Fellow Irish raider Tarnawa ran out an impressive winner of the Prix Vermeille on Arc Trials day, meanwhile, but flopped on a softer surface during British Champions Day last year.

Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere betting tips – Nando Parrado the punt

In the 7f Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere for juveniles (13:15), Royal Ascot hero Nando Parrado can resumed winning ways now upped in trip.

Trained by Clive Cox, who does well with his two-year-olds, this colt by Kodiac landed the Coventry Stakes by a length from Qaader. That was just his second career start.

Nando Parrado shaped as though further would suit last time out when chasing home Campanelle in the Prix Morny at Deuaville. He was only beaten a couple of lengths in that Group 1 contest but ran on into second when no match for the winner.

It is therefore interesting that Cox sends him out over two furlongs further here. Connections mean business as Christophe Soumillon again takes the ride here.

After just three career starts, Nando Parrado still has plenty of scope for further progress. Although he isn’t the 150/1 he was with bookmakers at Royal Ascot in the betting here, this test may be just want her needs to progress.

It is hard to fancy much else in a renewal of the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere lacking depth. St Mark’s Basilica is favourite and bred to appreciate this trip or even further, but plenty short enough given he was third in the National Stakes last time out.

Prix Marcel Boussac betting tips – Tiger Tanaka each-way value

In the other juvenile Group 1 on Arc day, the 1m Prix Marcel Boussac for fillies (15:50), Tiger Tanaka is a proven mudlark and solid each-way value.

Trained by Charley Rossi, this daughter of Clodovil has already won over the trip. After winning four minor events, she was pitched into Group 2 company and ran an eye-catching third in the Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly.

The drop back in trip to 6f was arguably against Tiger Tanaka that day as she kept on without reaching the front pair in the final furlong. She was only beaten by half-a-length, however.

When stepped back up to 7f and encountering heavy going for a Group 3 at Deauville, Tiger Tanaka bounced back. The way in which she drew two lengths clear in the final furlong suggests she is well worth a crack at the highest level.

There is also no reason why La Gioiosa, the runner-up who re-opposes here, should reverse form. Despite the presence of British runner Fev Rover who comes into this seeking a hat-trick and Irish raider Pretty Gorgeous, Tiger Tanaka looks a solid each-way alternative.

On bottomless ground which holds no fears for her, she might even upset the big overseas entries. Hitting the frame in this 14-runner line-up is what connections seek.

Tiger Tanaka gets on really well with jockey Jessica Marcialis too. In a race which is more open than it first appears, running into a place could well happen for the pair.
