Prix Morny betting tips – Tactical taken for hat-trick
The feature race in France at Deauville on Sunday is a cracking renewal of the 6f Group 1 Prix Morny for juveniles (13:35).
Tactical has progressed with each run this season, so is worth a punt for a third consecutive piece of black type.
Trained by Andrew Balding for Queen Elizabeth II, this Toronado colt was an unlucky but rallying third on debut at Newmarket. He took a step forward from that, however, when landing the Listed 5f Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.
As Tactical kept on well after leading in the final half-furlong, he shaped as though further would suit. He confirmed that impression at the July Festival when handling a softer surface.
The way in which Tactical ran on strongly and won going away, confirming Royal Ascot form with Yazaman at Newmarket suggests he could be something special.
Granted similar improvement between runs, he could well complete his hat-trick. The forecast heavy going is an unknown, but you can say the same with the rest of the Prix Morny field.
His pedigree suggests Tactical won’t lack stamina and may handle the conditions. As he is out of a Makfi mare, that damsire won on very soft going.
There is more to like about his profile in these conditions than American filly Campanelle, who has only raced on quick ground.
Tactical can land the Prix Morny spoils and set himself up for a crack at an autumn campaign in more big British juvenile races.

Prix Jean Romanet betting tips – Ambition appeals each-way
In the 1m 2f Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet for older fillies and mares (14:50), Ambition looks well worth backing each-way.
Trained by Xavier Thomas-Demeaulte, the four-year-old daughter of Dubawi has won three of her seven starts. All of those have come on soft surfaces, so she won’t mind the testing ground.
Ambition progressed last season and landed a Group 3 on her final start of the campaign at Toulouse. She relished heavy ground at Toulouse when challenging inside the final furlong and keeping on strongly for a 1 1/4 lengths victory.
That was the first time Mickael Barzalona took the ride on Ambition. He was also in the plate on reappearance when she landed the Group 2 Prix Corrida at Lyon.
That was another step forward from Ambition where she led in the final furlong and again stayed on well. Although only beating Grand Glory by a neck, this was a cosier win than that margin suggests.
The third home, Spirit Of Nelson, has since come out and won the Group 3 Grand Prix de Vichy, so the form has substance.
If making similar further progress here, then Ambition can at least hit the frame. This is a more competitive renewal of the Prix Jean Romanet than it first appears, but she is a filly in form and look to have been laid out for it.
Prix de Pomone betting tips – Ebaiyra a bet off bottom weight
Ebaiyra found the drop back in trip against her in the Prix de Diane last time out but, now stepped back up in trip and down in grade, can bounce back in the extended 1m 4f Group 2 Prix de Pomone (16:00).
Trained by Alain De Royer-Dupre for the Aga Khan, this daughter of Prix de Royallieu winner Ebiyza by Distorted Humor is beautifully bred.
Ebaiyra lived up to her pedigree when landing a Group 3 at Chantilly when first tackling a mile-and-a-half. After racing towards the rear, she made progress down the outside of the field approaching two out.
When ridden to lead entering the final furlong, Ebaiyra pet on strongly for a ready 2 1/2 lengths success. Going down in distance at the highest level didn’t work last time out.
As Ebaiyra simply couldn’t go the pace to threaten the leaders, her 3 1/2 lengths sixth to Fancy Blue doesn’t ready too badly. She reversed previous form with old rival Solsticia.
The winner has since followed-up at Glorious Goodwood in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes. Now out of Classic company and taking on her elders for the first time, Ebaiyra has a huge shout at the weights.
She gets a whopping 9lb allowance as a three-year-old in the Prix de Pomone. Christophe Soumillon is now back aboard Ebaiyra, and has a win and two seconds in three previous outings on her.
Given her powerful connections and trainer’s penchant for stayers, it would be no surprise to see her resume winning ways here. Ebaiyra has plenty going for her at Deauville.
