Horsebetting.com give their 2018 Falmouth Stakes betting tips for the feature 1m Group 1 contest on day two of the July Festival at Newmarket; Friday, 13 July. Alpha Centauri is impossible to oppose on all known form and looks a worthy odds-on favourite. Fellow Irish raider Clemmie can give her most to think about, while Nyaleti looks a bit of each-way value. Read our 2018 Falmouth Stakes betting tips preview to find out why!Alpha Centauri all the rage for Group 1 hat-trick in Falmouth Ireland based trainer Jessica Harrington has a real star in dual Group 1 winning filly Alpha Centauri, who on all known form is a deserved hot favourite for the feature 1m Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July Festival on Friday (15:35).
After being a winner at Listed level as a juvenile, the three-year-old has trained on with sensational results – first landing the Irish 1000 Guineas at The Curragh under a superbly timed run from jockey Colm O’Donoghue and then bolting up by six lengths in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The way in which Alpha Centauri destroyed the opposition, which included English 1000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook, was hugely impressive. When asked to put the race to bed she quickened instantly, shooting clear of the field in the final furlong to score in record time.
That devastating turn of foot means she has nothing to fear from the re-opposing Threading, who was best of the rest at Ascot. Alpha Centauri is 11lb and upwards clear on official ratings and meets her fellow three-year-olds off level weights again here, while also in receipt of 9lb from the older fillies and mares.
It is impossible to look past her landing the hat-trick. Although Alpha Centauri is naturally very short in the betting, her odds are fully justified and it’ll be a major shock is she doesn’t make it a third consecutive Group 1 success in this.Clemmie could be building up to somethingAidan O’Brien has won the last two renewals of the Falmouth and held eight of the 16 entries before final declarations, but the presence of a red-hot Irish raider in Alpha Centauri has scared away all but Clemmie from the Ballydoyle battalions.
She can give the favourite most to think about, because this daughter of Galileo is a dual Newmarket winner over 6f on both the July and Rowley Mile courses as a juvenile. The latter was a two-year-old Group 1 success in the Cheveley Park Stakes at the Future Champions Festival, which is always form to be taken seriously going forward.
While Clemmie has been well-beaten by Alpha Centauri in both the Irish Guineas and at Royal Ascot, the return to a happy hunting ground may bring about the improvement many expected her to immediately make this season.
At the prices on offer, those looking for a forecast bet can get better value on Clemmie than Threading, who she admittedly has six lengths to find against from Ascot form but lacks her good Newmarket record.Nyaleti appeals each-wayMark Johnston is double-handed in the lineup, and Group 2 winner Nyaleti is taken over stablemate Threading as one to consider each-way after stepping up in class well last time out.
With a record of two wins and a place from four starts at the Falmouth trip, Nyaleti has also twice finished second at Newmarket. She was a half-a-length third behind Laurens over a mile at Doncaster as a juvenile and that form is very strong.
Prior to that, Nyaleti was also a 1 3/4 lengths runner up to Clemmie at this meeting 12 months ago in the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes. She made most of the running, but was touched off yet held on for second and is ridden differently now.
Having also landed a Group 3 as a two-year-old, Nyaleti took a while to get going this season but scored at the third time of asking in a Listed contest at Goodwood and was then sent to Germany for their 1000 Guineas.
It the smooth progress she made to dispute the lead two out and then be pushed along to take it up before the furlong marker before Joe Fanning rode her clear that caught the eye in Dusseldorf.
This was a great piece of race placing by connections and, unlike others in the lineup, Nyaleti skipped Royal Ascot, so is fresh for a crack at this. If replicating her Group 2 success, then she should be making the frame again in a small but select field of seven.Your Next Bet
