Garrowby Stakes betting tips: Limato can follow-up at York

Betting Tips · -

The Garrowby Stakes betting tips given by Horsebetting.com experts say Limato can land back-to-back Listed races with victory in this 6f test at York on Sunday, 9 September. Kimberella, another winner in the grade this season, is feared most. Justanotherbottle, meanwhile, looks each-way value based on his record of making the frame at the Knavesmire. Our 2018 Garrowby Stakes betting tips preview has more on this feature event.Limato impossible to oppose in GarrowbyIt was no surprise at all to see Limato cash in on a significant ease in grade from Group 1 to Listed level last time out, so the Henry Candy trained six-year-old gelding looks well worth a wager to follow-up in the feature race at York on Sunday, the 6f Garrowby Stakes (14:55).

This popular son of Tagula enjoyed his finest hour in 2016 when landing the July Cup at Newmarket and would also win another Group 1 over in France that season. In-between those runs, Limato made his only previous career appearance on the Knavesmire when chasing home Mecca’s Angel in the 5f Nunthorpe Stakes at the Ebor Festival.

Such form sets a clear standard in the context of this lower grade affair and Limato then put in a string of fine efforts as a five-year-old last season. Those included a length third to The Tin Man in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, when runner-up to Harry Angel in a gallant defence of his July Cup crown and a half-a-length fourth to Breton Rock then stepped up to 7f for the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Limato got the victory his campaign had been threatening on his final start when landing the Group 2 Challenge Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths on the Rowley Mile course back at Newmarket. Although poor in three consecutive Group 1s this season, he bounced back to form when scoring by a cosy length in the Listed 6f Hopeful Stakes at headquarters last time out.

That is evidence that the old magic is still there and – in a poor field of six – Limato is top rated being 8lbs and upwards clear of the opposition. He races off an unchanged mark of 114 here from that Newmarket victory and this is an easier race for the grade on paper.

Although Limato must give weight to all but one of his rival rivals, he still comes out clear based on his official rating. On all known form, then, he is impossible to oppose, so we have no hesitation in putting him up as the main bet among our 2018 Garrowby Stakes betting tips and he’s fully expected to go in again.Kimberella feared mostA couple of veterans do battle against Limato here and the most dangerous of those is eight-year-old Richard Fahey trained gelding Kimberella, who has a 25 per cent win rate at the track including his most recent appearance over course and distance in 2016. The son of Kyllachy has plenty of miles on the clock as this is 85th outing under rules, but proved he was still up to winning at this level when victorious on his penultimate start.

That came at Chester in the Queensferry Stakes when regular jockey Paul Hanagan timed his run to perfection as a clear passage opened up and Kimberella chinned Major Jumbo in the dying strides to score by a neck. It was a 12th career victory to go with eight seconds and a dozen thirds, giving him a highly respectable win and place ratio of 38 per cent.

Something was clearly amiss last time out in the Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon when 19th of 20 as Kimberella also has smart back form from earlier in the campaign. He was beaten just a nose on the head bob by the thriving Sir Dancealot in a conditions contest at Hamilton back in June, and the winner has since landed a Group 3 and three Group 2s before being supplemented for the Haydock Sprint Cup.

It means Kimberella must be taken seriously here, especially as the assessor has eased his ratings 4lb since to a mark of 105 that he won that Listed affair at Chester off. A repeat of either of those runs will see him involved in the finish here, so he definitely looks the one who will give Limato most to think about.Jusanotherbottle an each-way contenderLocal trainer Declan Carroll has been back among the winners of late, so his Justanotherbottle looks the pick of the younger horses here and each-way value based on his solid performances in handicaps. The four-year-old gelding was a far from disgraced but never nearer four-length eighth in the valuable Rockingham at The Curragh three starts back.

He has since led home the near side group when a three-length fifth over 5f at Ascot and then cruelly denied in the final stride by Gifted Master when stepping back up to this trip in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood. These are some of the toughest and most competitive sprint handicaps in the racing calendar, so Justanotherbottle looks well worth a crack at this level off the back of such efforts.

The handicapper has has a say, however, putting him up 4lb to a career high mark of 105 – the same as Kimberella. Yet Justanotherbottle receives 3lb from that one and Limato here, thus giving him every chance at the weights of making the frame.

Regular rider Ger O’Neill has been good value for his claim, but Danny Tudhope taking over in the saddle is no problem as the last time he partnered Justanotherbottle he readily made all and won by two lengths at Doncaster.

With a repeat of his last run likely to see him go close, he is taken as the each-way angle among our 2018 Garrowby Stakes betting tips, but bookmakers will only be paying a quarter of the outright odds on two places given the size of the field.Your Next Bet
