King runner the answer to Triumph
In the 2m Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle for four-year-olds that kicks off Gold Cup day at the Cheltenham Festival on Friday (13:20), Tritonic appeals most. Trained by Alan King, who saddled Penzance and Katchit to victory in this, he has a progressive profile.
Tritonic placed at Listed level on the Flat after finishing runner-up in a Royal Ascot handicap. He ended last year rated 99 in that sphere after a solid fourth in the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket. After a break, the son of Sea The Moon switched to hurdles.
As Tritonic made a taking debut over obstacles at Ascot, then confirmed form with the runner-up, Casa Loupi, when upped in grade for the Adonis at Kempton, he has improved. There was just a length between the pair in their first encounter, but that increased tenfold.
With even more progress to come, Tritonic is an exciting horse for the spring festivals. He appeals most at odds of 5/2 with bet365 despite the presence of a typically formidable Irish contingent in the Triumph Hurdle.

That challenge from the Emerald Isle is headed by another unbeaten hurdler in Zanahiyr. A Flat convert owned by Noel and Valerie Moran, this Nathaniel gelding was down the field behind subsequent St Leger hero Galileo Chrome in a Curragh maiden.
Zanahiyr has sine progressed through the grades over obstalces before a winter break. After landing a maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe, he made an effortless step up in class at Fairyhouse where he had earlier won on the level. That came in a Grade 3 contest where Zanahiyr slammed subsequent Grade 1 runner-up Saint Sam by 14 lengths.
He then completed his hat-trick in the Knight Frank again on the upgrade. Regular jockey Jack Kennedy didn’t need to get serious on him for an easy 3 3/4 lengths victory over Boodles Handicap Hurdle fancy Bussleton. Granted further improvement, Zanahiyr is a big danger for Tritonic.
The lack of a recent run may be his only disadvantage. That is the only reason for opposing him in the Triumph Hurdle, but Zanahiyr must still bring his A game. Odds of 6/4 with Unibet say he can take for Denis Foster.
Adagio the best Triumph Hurdle each-way value
Of the rest, Quilixios has won all of his starts over the last year. A French recruit for major owners Cheveley Park Stud, the Maxios gelding profited from Zanahiyr’s absence and took the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival.
However, on a form line through Saint Sam, he does not have the beating of Zanaihyr. Quilixios has also switched stables to Henry De Bromhead on the eve of Cheltenham, and that is not ideal. The best value each-way here is course winner Adagio for David Pipe.
He has never been out of the first three in seven career starts. After scoring on his British debut at Warwick, Adagio chased home Duffle Coat in a Grade 2 Triumph Hurdle Trial on the Old course here and then cashed in on a drop in class in another. On the back of that effort, he improved again and took the Grade 1 Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow.
The way that Adagio readily defeated Nassalam suggests he is well worth another crack at this level. He is 8/1 with Betfred for the spoils. At even bigger odds, Tax For Max from the Willie Mullins yard, is a Triumph Hurdle dark horse this year if settling better.
