Wolferton Stakes betting tips from Royal Ascot 2018 at Horsebetting.com talk up Prince Khalid owned horses Mirage Dancer and Monarchs Glen for the Listed 1m 2f contest that closes the opening day of the meeting on Tuesday, 19 June. Ante post favourite Laraaib is also worth considering, according to our 2018 Wolferton Stakes betting tips, and here’s why.Mirage Dancer can deliver in WolfertonLast year’s Hampton Court Stakes third Mirage Dancer will be all the rage for the Listed Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot this year if Benbatl advertises the form earlier on Tuesday’s card (17:35).
The Sir Michael Stoute trained four-year-old is dropping back down to that 1m 2f distance again after winning over a mile-and-a-half in this grade well last time out at Goodwood. Sent off the even-money favourite, Mirage Dancer was produced upsides to lead 1f out and was soon in command. He looked value for more than the three-length winning margin over Euginio, who re-opposes in this, as the son of Frankel was eased at the finish.
Prior to that, Mirage Dancer was beaten just a neck at Ascot by Barsanti and also posted a solid third behind Cracksman in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at York on his penultimate start of last season. Dropping down to a mile-and-a-quarter should present no problem for this Prince Khalid owned colt, so Mirage Dancer rates a solid bet to bring home the spoils for his royal connections.Laraaib respected and a dangerAnte post favourite Laraaib is the sole course and distance winner in the 16-strong lineup, so he’s entitled to respect. Trained by Owen Burrows, the four-year-old notched a handicap success at the venue and over the trip 11 months and three starts ago.
After tracking the leaders on the inner, Laraaib was ridden and made progress over two out to lead before the furlong marker. He was soon clear and a ready two-length winner. Connections have since pitched him into group company where Laraaib has ran with credit, first when a 5 3/4 lengths third to Frankuus last season and then on reappearance when chasing home Poet’s Word in the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown.
Now eased in grade, Laraaib could easily enhance his career record to three wins in six. He is a clear danger to Mirage Dancer in what looks a wide-open renewal of the Wolferton.Monarchs Glen is great each-way valueWith some firms paying four places on the race, Prince Khalid’s other entrant Monarchs Glen looks a very solid each-way angle for the winning combination of John Gosden and Frankie Dettori.
This four-year-old is top rated in the field, having won at Listed and Group 3 level on his final two starts of last season. Monarchs Glen followed up on a short-head success over this trip at Goodwood when going away at the finish over a furlong shorter at Newmarket. Connections were then keen to send him to Meydan for a crack at Group 1 company during the Dubai World Cup meeting. Monarchs Glen was never beaten than mid-division and beaten 28 lengths by Benbatl, but that reappearance run was surely too bad to be true.
Not all horses travel overseas well, so now back on home turf he should give a much better account of himself. Monarchs Glen looks a serious each-way player among Wolferton Stakes betting tips if treating him on the pick of his form at the tail end of 2017. This distance clearly suits and there are enough reasons to forgive that poor run out in the Middle East, including a very tasty price and extra places available in this.Your Next Bet
